Sorry makes me think of the margarine, which is a shame because in theory it's a pretty name :(

Gorgeous. So jealous but I could never get my husband to agree to Flora Hmm x

Too many "R" sounds in a row for my liking, what letter does the surname begin with?

Report
JessicaD21 · 21/01/2014 21:00

Surname begins with P and is quite long x

Too many 'R' sounds in a row I feel. It doesn't flow from the '-ra' to the 'Ro' very smoothly.

Also I wouldn't have both names as flowers/pertaining to flowers. They're both pretty names but by putting them together it's the name version of Cath Kidston floral pattern overkill.

I hope I haven't offended. Ultimately, whatever name feels right to you is the right one.

The names sound lovely together, but I'm not sure about the double-flower thing either. Flora is a gorgeous name.

Nope. Flora is not good.

Flora is a popular margarine....for this reason don't go there even if you think it is a lovely name. Everyone you know will wonder why you called your daughter after a margarine....they WILL snigger, though this is unlikely to be to your face. Sorry

Still love it, think we might just have to use it :) if its a boy he will be Felix so we will be tapping into the cat food industry there!!!

Rose, yes. Flora, no. Sorry.

sorry but

  1. Marge (as in Margarine) could be a nickname
  2. TWO flower names, overkill?
  3. Ra-ro
  4. In a class with daisy/ rosa/ lily/ bluebell/ rose/ florence/ blossom/ camellia/ Ivy/ Lotus/ Poppy/ Jasmine etc it'd be a bit wearing being part of the bouquet in later years (I know many of the above names, MANY)

5 she may not grow into the type of girl to suit a flower name, maybe at least a middle name opt out for if she decides to play rugby and drive trucks?

You did ask, and you'd probably hate my kid's names!

It's very flowery.

I like both names a lot. I think they're a bit tricky to say together (though maybe we Scots say our "R"s differently?!)

Rhubarbgarden · 21/01/2014 21:49

Flora is beautiful, but it doesn't work with Rose.

Report
Mellowandfruitful · 21/01/2014 21:50

Like others, I think both names individually are nice but am a bit doubtful about the 'ra Ro' sound in the middle, so don't think I would put them together.

I'm a Flora. Yes, I did get the butter jokes (including "Are your legs spreadable?" Hmm)
BUT I also got and still get millions of compliments on my name. It's unusual, but not terribly out there. It has a lovely, old fashioned sort of charm that sounds great with old British surnames and foreign surnames alike.

I also wouldn't pair it with Rose, as it's too flowery and the 'R' sound overruns. I would go with a non-flowery middle name that won't run into the last syllables.

Flora Jane
Flora Katherine
Flora Anne
Flora Yvonne
etc

We are not having any more DC but if we did and had another girl I would call it Flora Joy

I like Flora and we very strongly considered it for my DD. I also considered Rose as a first name.

I would go with Flora as the first name and then a different middle name. Every girl has Rose has the middle name. Best avoided in my view.

Flora is great though.
