What do people think of the name Sally? I like it, but I don't seem to see it suggested here often/at all - or is it on here all the time and I've just somehow missed it?

I think its a very nice name, it originally came from Sarah which is hebru for princess. I think its fairly uncommon, thats why it doesnt show up.

Hmm, I do wonder why it's so uncommon then. Does anyone just not like it? To me it's sort of "feminine", like my own name. But mine I think is much more common now than it was when I was little, and Sally doesn't seem to be.

I can only think of one real life Sally I know and she is in her late 40's. I think it's quite pretty. Reminds me of Aunt Sally on Worzel Gummidge but probably showing my age now!

I think it's about due to come round again! I like it, sort of 50s kitschy chic (if that is a thing). Don Draper's daughter in 'Mad Men' is Sally, of course.

My mum now DOES get called Aunt Sally by her nieces and nephews. It drives her demented. Always going to be an older family member who knows Worzel Gummidge!

I like the name Sally. It is one of those names that is uncommon, but no one would have trouble spelling or pronouncing.

I've a few friends called Sally, and they're all lovely ladies.

Don't know why no one really uses any more. My friends are in their 40's. Seems it was popular then.

Its twee and ditsy. Like Dolly or Molly but not as interesting. Its a nickname for Sarah which is dull in itself. So not a fascinating, strong, classy or attractive name at all. Which makes me wonder why on earth anyone would consider it for their daughter.

I'm a Sally (and now about to namechange!) Mid-thirties, born in a former colony, forrriner in England, don't personally know another one. Know of Sally Bercow, but she is awful. Named after my grandmother of irish extraction, she was christened Cecilia, nn Sally. I like my name, but there are prettier girls' names out there :)

A slightly ditzy, other-enthusiastic, tall woman.. And for some reason not very feminine.

I think there's a generational thing here. There are loads of Sallys aged about 45 or older. Very few younger ones. I'm not sure where that puts it in terms of the 'due a revival' cycle.

I am intrigued by the idea of a Sally the camel song because when I was at Brownies we sang Alice the camel. I like both names but think that Alice makes a much better camel name!
