Baby names

Help with name to go with 'unusual' (comedy) surname please!

I've posted before about girls names to go with our unhelpful surname Aldock (see -
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a1912210-Unhelpful-surname-Chloe-or-Freya-or)
but now I need boys name suggestions please!

Again, we've had to rule quite a few we like out, eg. Jacob (Jaco Baldcock) and Aidan (which I just think doesn't sound right - and as I've said in my previous thread, I don't really like alliteration).

We like Isaac but it just wouldn't work - I's a coldcock or I suck old cock??????!!!

Though we think Zac is a possiblility - Does Zac Aldcock sound ok?

Please can you give us some suggestions (boys or girls) - it's driving me a little crazy!!!!! Thank you!

Your only option is to go even crazier for a first name

I give you Bartholomew Aldcock

And Boudicca Aldcock

They both detract from the comedy value that is your surname Grin

I think Laurie's suggestions are fabulous.

I have a comedy surname. My sympathies.

I think Zac is lovely

Alternatively - Noah, Patrick or Joshua?

Hermione
Vincent
John

Its not that terrible a surname. I used to know a lovely family with the surname 'Willey'. Their children all had 3-4 syllable names and were uncommonly charming and beautiful. None of them gave a shit and it was clear they had risen above it.

I do love the name Zac, but it could sound like Suck so I would avoid it!

I think you need a longish first name, at least 3 syllables to take the emphasis to the first name. Something like Nathaniel, Cameron, Sebastien?

Not Ivan Grin

Not really helpful but could you doublebarrle the surname?

Boys....
Ian Aldcock
Peter Aldcock
Hayden Aldcock
Lee Aldcock
Rowen Aldcock
Ezra Aldcock
Elijah Aldcock
Dean Aldcock

Girls....
Rowan Aldcock
Elizabeth Aldcock
Victoria Aldcock nn Tory
Claudia Aldcock

I would go with a really bording name that everyone knows.

I think I would go for a name beginning with a vowel like Alfred or Ian, Owen etc. But not Isaac, Oliver or Arthur.

JodieGarberJacob · 20/01/2014 18:18

Don't go for a name beginning with B! He will spend a life time writing B. Aldcock, not fair!

Report
ToffeeJungle · 20/01/2014 18:39

Ha, yes we've ruled out names beginning with B!
I also ruled out names beginning with a vowel as didn't think any would sound right though do like Owen.

I know that it isn't that bad a surname really and I have heard worse but it does make naming children more difficult!!

Joel

I think the name should end with a vowel sound, so it can't run into Aldcock. Lee, Ezra, Elijah Noah. Or Vincent sounds great

ToffeeJungle · 20/01/2014 19:26

I quite like Noah and Elijah.
Joel is great but already in the family.

Please keep your suggestions coming!

Agree the longer name have a much better sound.

BillyBanter · 21/01/2014 09:09

I vote Gabriel. Goldcock.

ToffeeJungle · 21/01/2014 09:37

Thanks Billy, that's helpful!

I have thought that we may have to rule out even more names due to initials - ie. B, C, F, G, H.

As Peppa Pig might say, this is impossible!!!!!!

Goldcock could be quite an impressive nickname. Oh yeah baby , they call me Mr goldcock.

I have a comedy name too.

I am, however, very grateful its not backholer.

Had another thought, revert to your maiden name and give it to the baby!

omuwalamulungi · 21/01/2014 09:59

I once came across a "Mr and Mrs Fuckner" in a previous job, so it could be worse OP.

Noah is a lovely name.

Report
ToffeeJungle · 21/01/2014 10:54

Ha, I definitely know it could be worse! I actually quite like it - it's our family name and I don't think anything of it in everyday use. Just when you're naming a baby it's obviously something we need to think about!

Do you think we could get away with Zac?

Definitely not Arthur Grin

Or Harry. Too much like Hairy.

Is changing the surname an option?

Rafferty could sound like Raggedy. Raggedy Baldcock is interesting!

Raphael, Henry, Samuel?
