I saw the hobbit and thought as a standalone name this is nice - unusual, sounds nice, looks nice written down. What does everyone else think?

I actually like it for a boy, but if he's a little un you might get some dwarf-related teasing.

I love it. I may be biased as Ds2 has a very similar name

I like it.

It is a "soft" sounding name.

You cannot possibly name a baby after a dwarf from a book.
Wake up!

pictish · 12/01/2014 21:59

No!
Too contrived and obvious, sorry. It's from The Hobbit, and belongs there.

Is it not pronounced with a 'T' sound rather than a 'Th' sound?

Torrin is a Scots name. It is Gaelic for 'little hill'.
Very nice it is too.

Much better than using a blockbuster movie name surely?

People will snigger. Perhaps not you your or Thorin's face. After that they will then get used to the name I guess. But still have it in their back pocket as a conversational gambit "you'll never guess the name of a baby/person I know..."
