I saw the hobbit and thought as a standalone name this is nice - unusual, sounds nice, looks nice written down. What does everyone else think?

ROARmeow Sun 12-Jan-14 21:11:24

Like it smile

Might get a few hmm faces at first, but it's good.

Oakenshield!

I do like it actually.

dementedma Sun 12-Jan-14 21:18:35

I actually like it for a boy, but if he's a little un you might get some dwarf-related teasing.

ViviDeBeauvoir Sun 12-Jan-14 21:18:57

I love it. I may be biased as Ds2 has a very similar name

caramelwaffle Sun 12-Jan-14 21:19:19

I like it.

It is a "soft" sounding name.

Astarael Sun 12-Jan-14 21:19:34

Totally going on my list for dc #2

LCHammer Sun 12-Jan-14 21:20:15

Like Soren with a lisp.

Ruprekt Sun 12-Jan-14 21:21:20

Sounds like a medication.......grin

beedles17 Sun 12-Jan-14 21:55:32

oh god no!

coffeeinbed Sun 12-Jan-14 21:56:53

You cannot possibly name a baby after a dwarf from a book.
Wake up!

pictish Sun 12-Jan-14 21:59:20

No!
Too contrived and obvious, sorry. It's from The Hobbit, and belongs there.

ViviDeBeauvoir Sun 12-Jan-14 22:05:32

Is it not pronounced with a 'T' sound rather than a 'Th' sound? <ignorant>

Ememem84 Sun 12-Jan-14 22:15:20

I love it. And was on my just if hypothetical future baby names for our hypothetical child. Dh liked it. But then found out my godson us called Aragon. He now thinks family is a bit nuts. Too late....

serin Sun 12-Jan-14 22:16:09

Is it freezing lad?

Nah, it's Thorin.

pictish Sun 12-Jan-14 22:17:06

Torrin is a Scots name. It is Gaelic for 'little hill'.
Very nice it is too.

Much better than using a blockbuster movie name surely?

willyoulistentome Sun 12-Jan-14 22:18:16

Just don't! !. You may as well call it chewbacca

Ruprekt Sun 12-Jan-14 22:30:11

Now Chewbacca I like......gringringringringrin

Torin is a child at my school.....brother is Tathan. Any good?

sonlypuppyfat Sun 12-Jan-14 22:33:22

These threads are always good for a laugh.

Selks Sun 12-Jan-14 22:36:53

It sounds like some thyroid medication.

Xfirefly Sun 12-Jan-14 22:41:26

I liked it...DP looked at me in horror when I suggested it. grin

crumpet Sun 12-Jan-14 22:49:46

People will snigger. Perhaps not you your or Thorin's face. After that they will then get used to the name I guess. But still have it in their back pocket as a conversational gambit "you'll never guess the name of a baby/person I know..."

crumpet Sun 12-Jan-14 22:50:41

And I speak as a lover of all things Tolkien

gruffalosfriend Sun 12-Jan-14 23:20:29

I like Torin (pronounced Tor-in).

gruffalosfriend Sun 12-Jan-14 23:22:46
