What do you think? Too Israeli/Jewish (we are secular Jews but not zionists).

I would definitely read it as Jewish but not as zionist. I went to school with two Goldies, don't think either of them were from zionist families either, so am influenced by that.

I Immediately thought that must be Jewish but it doesn't hold any negative connotations for me. I quite like it.

Golda Meir. That's what I'm trying to say. Id think you'd named her after her. But Im not Jewish so that's the only Golda I know.

I would assume you/ your child was Jewish. I've heard of Golda Meir (?) too but I'd have to google her to be able to remind myself why. Not being Jewish, any other connotation would totally escape me. I guess if you like the name it depends on whether those around you would make pre/assumptions about your child that you don't want for her.

Have googled herGrin Fabulous strong role model for a girl, what's not to likeSmile

I would also assume Jewishness, but then I'm secular Jewish and know people called Golda. It's pretty.

Golda is lovely. It is not only a Jewish name - and it is certainly not screaming Zionist at me.

Sorry, but naming for a v high profile previous Israeli PM would say 'Zionist' to me.

My mum was called Golda, and died recently aged 83.
She was from a mixed Catholic/Protestant Glasgwegian family. Named after the Jewish child my granny nannied for.

Mum loved her name, loved that it was unusual. Not impressed when people thought it was Goldie.

When I was thinking about baby names, my Jewish friend advised me that it was considered very old-fashioned in Israel and the modern equivalent name would be Zehava.

I never used it. And to be honest, I don't know why not, not even as a middle name, as I like the name and she would have been so chuffed. She never met another (apart from her niece named after her).

My first supervisor as a trainee psychologist was a Golda. One of the kindest people I've known- so I think it's a beautiful name. She was also a secular Jew.

That was the name of my childhood pet! A golden lab. Not helpful, sorry :-)

Great name, especially with your heritage. Gilda is on my list.
