Depends how you're pronouncing it. I'm Scottish, here it's Mag-nis. But I know a Norwegian Mah-Nus and a Danish Mau-nus. 'Mags' is the nickname where I come from and it's 'Mau' for the other guys I've mentioned.

Thanks. I guess it's not compulsory that it gets shortened. It's one of the few names DH and I can agree on for DS4 (due in about a week )

My Magnus (age 3 ) has never had a nickname as of yet, except at school where the kids think he's called Magnet...:)

Gorgeous name. You don't need to shorten it. At school he could be called anything, most of my friends with nicknames are unrelated to their actual name or relate to surnames.

My beautiful Magnus occasionally gets shortened to Mags. My husband calls him Magna a lot. I pretty much always call him Magnus. He is only just about 2 though, not sure what will happen when he is older

I love his name. It is simple yet unusual where we live and is a nod to my Scottish heritage while also being a cool Scandinavia name too. Love it and the older he gets the more I like it.

Magnus is fantastic. We are in Germany and my dd has a classmate age 10 called Magnus - pronounced Mag-noos, he's an awesome kid.

I would go for gus or just wait and see, my ds's nickname is nothing like his name and he has had a few different ones and he's only 6 months.
