Just curious, has anyone else made a name up?

When I was having my son my partner chose the name Theo which I wasn't too keen on as I don't particularly like Theodore so I made up Theoden although a friend has told me there is a character in lord of the rings with a name like that. Just curious to hear of any other new or very usual names?

www.google.co.uk/search?q=theoden&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=AaajUqHoD4-ShQfqqIHwDg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA#biv=i%7C4%3Bd%7CDbtoGoZHFsf0IM%3A

Theoden is the king of rohan in the LOTR so not made up n true sense.

I have 2 ds with the shortened versions of longer names, but now names in their own right. I'd have plumped for theo as a standalone name.

I was fairly bulldozed at he time with his name. I wanted his middle name to be after my grandad but I was told I should have my dad's name as the middle name, so he is Theoden john although I never use Theoden. What names do you have and like if you had more?

He's a good character in LOTR.

Some may say mine have dull names - joe and Tom (not Joseph or Thomas) but we like them and they go with their sister's name.

HoneyandRum · 07/12/2013 23:13

I know an 8 year old Thorin named after Thorin Oakenshield King of the Dwarves in The Hobbit [helpful]

taurusmum85 · 07/12/2013 23:14

I love simple names I was rooting for the dreaded 'jack' but got overruled although if I ever have a girl she will be called vivienne after my late mum and I couldn't care less what the family think although I also like emmerancia which was her middle name, either way I'm picking the next name.

The name I made up for DS was spookily used by a neighbour for their wayward boss eyed cat about a year after he was born. We had many fun moments listening to her shriek it across the gardens.

Yellowcake · 07/12/2013 23:15

But ,LOTR aside, why make up a name when presumably you liked Theo as it was? Did there need to be an invented longer name?

Theoden is quite cool, but in general made up names are awful, Nevaeh- type disasters.

My son has a comparatively underused Biblical name, which I love, and people still do double takes all the time.

Yellowcake · 07/12/2013 23:16

I used to know a little Gandalf, come to think of it. And there was a fashion for Arwens and Eowyns at one point.

LalyRawr · 07/12/2013 23:17

My name is made up!

Well, it's a feminine twist on a male name. But I'm the only one on Google with it.

I love it, even if I do have to spell it/sound it out constantly.

taurusmum85 · 07/12/2013 23:20

I picked Theoden because partners side of the family said he had to have a 'full' name and I wasn't keen on Theodore. I had no idea people had used names from lotr and the hobbit.

Vajazzler · 07/12/2013 23:33

I know a couple who took bits from their names to make a name for their dd

Pooka · 07/12/2013 23:35

Now I like Vivienne very much.

taurusmum85 · 07/12/2013 23:37

I like the idea but iv no imagination of how I would do that.

I just love it because of my mum I want something of hers, it slowly seems to be making a comeback now.

TidyDancer · 07/12/2013 23:51

Vajazzler, I know a couple who did that too. They have a DS and a DD with similar names and the DD is the one with the made up name. If it begins with F, we may know the same family!

HaroldTheGoat · 07/12/2013 23:54

I know someone who totally made their name up, boys names we so hard I think, small pool to choose from.

Vivienne is a lovely name btw.

justhayley · 08/12/2013 01:24

Oh God I just double took - thought someone called their baby vajazzler lol! Id be rubbish @ making up a name, would end up with something awful.
Isnt Katie prices little girls name made up? Tiami (mix of Tia and Ami there mums names or something like that).

KLou1105 · 08/12/2013 16:13

My cousins name is Karleanne not sure if its made up or not but its from her dads name Karl and her mums name Diane x

JenniferClarissa · 08/12/2013 16:20

I have met two children (not from the same family, and 10 years apart) whose names are combinations their parents' names. In both cases I'd never heard the name before, and have not come across it since.
