Thoughts? I rather like it and there is none that I know of round here. We are English living in Scotland and I've read on here Lydia means teapot in Scotland - anyone heard of this?!

It's my DDs name so I think it's pretty good actually.

She's 10 and so far has never been teased for anything to do with lids or teapots or any of the other weird things MNers come out with on previous threads about the name. It's pretty uncommon still I think - DD's the only one in her school atm, and I've only come across a couple of others via Mums yelling it across the shop floor when I'm at work

I wanted dd to be called Lydia, but dh vetoed it on the grounds of the tattooed lady song, as mentioned!

One of the midwives was called Lydia and I felt sure I'd get my way, what with that being A Sign....... and she had NEVER EVER had that mentioned to her, but dh stood firm, so it is her middle name instead.

Never had that sung at us either (not that it would bother me or her tbh) She does however have a very nice t-shirt with an Art Deco picture of Lydia-from-Beetlejuice (Winona Ryder) which is our favourite 'famous' Lydia (it's also a saints name - first European woman baptised, St Lydia Purpuraria)

I know I'm being ridiculous. I only know one Lydia and she's lovely.

But I use several of the aforementioned distinctive French preserve vessels for keeping sugar and half tins of soup and pasta rings in and they jump unbidden into my mind.

Would help hugely if I wasn't dyslexic, if I heard the name and saw the spelling Lyd(ia), as DD2 would, I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem.

My dd is called Lydia. She's 19 and I still love the name as much as I did when we chose it.

She does get it shortened, I'm as guilty as anyone, I call her Liddy quite a bit, but I don't associate it with a teapot. I associate it with my lovely dd.

I think every name could have weird connotations. So I'd ignore everyone else and go for what you love.

It probably helps that no-one really shortens DD's name, except me and I do it the other way around. She used to call herself 'Dia when she was wee, and it's sort of stuck.

I like it but DH vetoed it after he googled it as a possibility for DD and cane across Lydia Chlamydia.

I know - I would never have made the connection myself. But once it's in your head, what can you do?

My cousins little girl is Lydia and I nick name her Lydi-LouLou. She is a very sweet blond curly girly girl at the moment, who likes her ballet lessons.

It's a nice name, makes me think of Lydia Winters (Director of fun at Mojang, the makers of Minecraft) - quite a few children of the minecraft generation will know of her so think it a cool name.

I've only ever met one and she is Scottish. Lovely name, would consider it for a DD if it were not my friend's name. I'd never make any lid or teapot connections.
