My cousin and his wife are having a baby boy. She is Russian, he is English. They did think about Hugo, but have now gone off it. Just wondered if anybody had any inspiration for boys names which work well in Russian and English.

Alexander. NN - Sasha?

baskingseals · 04/11/2013 17:31

Good idea, and actually one I have suggested, but she already has a Sasha in her close family, so sadly it's out.

If they liked Hugo.. How about Hugh?

puntasticusername · 04/11/2013 20:44

I've always had a soft spot for Ivan, myself. It got vetoed by DH though. And then there's Boris, of course...

baskingseals · 05/11/2013 06:12

Thanks for the suggestions. I did suggest Hugh, but it wasn't met with a great response.

Like Ivan and Boris. Especially Boris. Great name.

Nikolai can be shortened to Nik.

Isaak works well in either language

I like Sergei - is that Russian?!

baskingseals · 05/11/2013 14:10

Oh thanks for all the responses. I LOVE Konstantin and Valentin, but for some reason they were not as enamoured as I was.

Love Luka and Vlad, thank you. Sergei has also been rejected. Again I think it's great. So much easier when it's not your baby though. Grin

Great suggestions, really like Roman, Arkady, Dmitri and Kostya, but is Kostya a nickname for Nicolai or have I got that completely wrong?
