Can't stop thinking I have made wrong name choice for 20 week old DD

I can't get used to my DDs name and keep wondering about other names for her. It was a name both my DH and I liked, and had done for a while but really we had very few other choices as DH didn't suggest/like many others. I was always a little on the fence as it's not overly pretty but thought that was fine as I don't like frilly/fussy/cutesy type names. It also sounds quite similar to my own name and I worry that when called around the house it will be confusing - probably over thinking it! I don't think my mum likes the name either although she said it has really grown on her.

There is another name which I had discounted as it is the name of a friend of DS - I met the mum at a baby group and we see eachother fairly regularly. Now I am wondering if it really matters and I could have gone for this name.

I know I could change up to a year - how straightforward is this to do? My DH won't entertain the idea though, he thinks I am being ridiculous and have spent too long thinking about this.

Has anyone else been in this position? I don't have post natal depression which I know is often linked to this uncertainty but will I ever grow to really love the name and feel we have made the right choice. I remember having these doubts with my son's name (but not as bad as this) but now he is 3 I absolutely adore his name and couldn't imagine wanting to call him anything else.

Sorry for the long post, just helped to get it all written down - DH won't listen or discuss it with me.

Sorry but it always helps on these threads to know the name.

Very easy to change the name - phone your register office, but you just fill in a form and pay for new certificates. Not much use, though, if DH is determined...

Could you say what the name is ??

Why don't you like it? If you felt the same with your son, and now you love his name, maybe this will pass? Is there ANY name you will be 100% sure of?

Her name is Erin. I do like it but then I think maybe it's too short and not pretty enough for her and she is such a lovely pretty little thing.

The other name is Imogen. Beachbal - that's a good question whether I would be 100% happy with it. Last week I was convinced I should change to her middle name (Charlotte) but now I can't see her as a Charlotte!

No wonder my husband is getting annoyed, I'm even annoying myself!!

Also I keep thinking that it's not 'classic' enough for me iyswim.

Erin is a lovely name :)

i dont think.you can change it unless your husband agrees?

names grow on children/babies grow into their names.

I had doubts about my daughters name (Scarlett) for the first year of her life and wanted to change it to Amelia but I am so glad we didn't. I love the name Scarlett now and it suits her so well. I think Erin Charlotte is a lovely pretty name x

I love that name! Was my second choice.

I wasn't sure about my daughters first choice for a while either. It was chosen during an extremely hard time in my family and i felt as though i didn't get a chance to think about it enough with the other stuff going on. It took me a couple of years to get used to it, actually probably quite a bit more than that.

It gradually just became my daughters name and now i can't imagine her being called anything else.

Adore Erin! Beautiful name one I wanted for my youngest but didn't suit surname Hmm what about her middle name? Possibly keep Erin but use an alternative as middle name? My two daughters have similar sounding names when one is shortened. Didn't think anything of it before she was born but now everyone calls her by her nickname rather than proper name iyswim. Although for a while had doubts and kept correcting people to use her proper name, now I wouldn't change it at all. X

I think Erin is a really pretty name, and you could always use a nn of Wren (sort of works!) whis is another lovely little name IMHO. A lot of people grow up with nn completely different to their given names (thinking of singers Birdy and Miley for example) so there is that avenue to take as well, esp if your DH doesn't like the idea of properly changing it.

Erin is a gorgeous name. Maybe the pnd is clouding your judgement? How about you practise calling her Imogen for a day or so and see if you prefer it? You might find that she's an Erin to you now and it might make you realise you're attached to it?

I still occasionally think I should have called my dd the full version of a name, if that makes sense; she's called a name in its own right but one that can be a diminutive and I wonder if I should have given her the choice. Nevertheless it's her name, it's part of her now and I do love it (she's 3). Hugs x

I felt very similar to you. I have given my dd a short name & thought I should have given her a longer more frilly name. I was obsessing about it for several weeks & nearly changed it. Think in my heart I knew I'd picked the right one. I'm so glad I didn't change it as she suits her name so much now. I think babies become their names & don't suit any name to begin with.
I do really like Erin, much more than Imogen which is quite popular where I live. Erin is really pretty & feminine.
I think lack of sleep & hormones make us question everything ! Xxx

Erin is a great name, more fully rounded than Imogen. Erin is a cute baby/little girl name, and a good solid name for an adult. Erin to me sounds characterful, down to earth, lots of fun. Imogen sounds posh and like she should be playing hockey all the time. It's tough - there are so many names out there, it's difficult to choose 'the one'. Imagine if someone told you her name had been changed and was now Imogen. How would you feel? Would you mourn for Erin? Stick with it!

Erin is a beautiful name OP. Changing it is your prerogative but personally, at 20 weeks, i'd leave it.
And fwiw i'm not a fan of Imogen (reminds me of that Welsh girl from Big Brother with the dubious morals)

Erin has always been one of my favourite names. It's the name of one of the cutest toddlers I've ever met. I like it better than Imogen.

I love the name Erin. I think it is a very very pretty name (prettier than Imogen, sorry)

I know two Erin's both really pretty girls, both very very nice too.

Stick with it, it is gorgeous and I think you may regret changing it in a few months / years.

Erin is such a lovely name and does sound prettier than Imogen. You've got ages to change it though - see how she suits the name over the next few weeks, you might find you like it as much as we all do when you stop thinking about it as much.

I actually like both names but I know more baby Imogen's than ones called Erin .

For me, Erin is a grown up name, and Imogen is a little girl name, so she will grow into it. Of the two, I prefer Erin.
