Baby names

'Value' or 'moral' names...

Been thinking about boys names (probably something to do with the imminent arrival of DS2 who is still nameless) and reading through the baby names board I see little girls' names based on values, qualities or morals - things like Faith, Honour, Hope, Constance, that sort of name. I can't think of a single male name that would fit this category, can anyone else?

Interesting. Justice, maybe? Not very common but think it's been used as a given name.

You're right, male names of this type do seem to be more unusual.I can only think of Clement and Justin/Justus, but I'm sure there must be others!

I think a lot of boys names are virtue names but they're not words for virtues that we would use now

Not quite the same I don't think, but I've always liked the name Comfort for a boy. Makes me think of fabric softener though :(

I quite liked the idea of Chivalry after reading the Robin Hobb books, all the males are named for traits.

There's a lot of expectation though isn't it? Would you be hoping to impart that value to your child? How does that work? I can imagine there are days when being called Joy would really get on my wick.

Isn't the president of Nigeria called Goodluck Jonothan. That's my favourite name of all time.

Benedict is nice.

Not all quite as appealing as female value names, but pretty unambiguous, most of them.

Some interesting ones there, thanks! Don't think any of them will make it onto the short list (except maybe Benedict) but I'm happy to be proved wrong!
