What do you think oooof....

We've got a while to go but the subject of names has already come up. BF (boyfriend, not breast feeding, in this thread) likes the nickname Teddy for a boy; so do I, but BF seems to think he'll be happy to be known as Teddy his whole life. And doesn't like Theodore. And wants Edward, but for him to be Teddy or Ted for the rest of his life. Can't see that working on a teenager. Plus I just don't like Edward.

So we've spoken, and come to a brief (very brief) list, for boys and girls. And really I'm just looking for middle name suggestions for girls, and any other suggestions for boys. 'D' names for a boy (not David or Daniel, nothing overly posh or pretentious) are best, but if not, suggest away.

Dylan Rhys Edward _ for a boy.

Saffron for a girl. We considered Cadi; we'd like a Welsh middle name, but not a necessity.

Not sure how to describe names I like other than... well they're probably what MNers would consider 'chavvy'. My reactions to suggestions will probably give you a hint Wink

Thanks in advance Grin

Dylan Rhys Edward is lovely!

Struggling to think of other boy 'D' names: Damian, Dominic?

Saffron Eleri
Saffron Carys/Cerys
Saffron Elin
Saffron Celyn
Saffron Angharad
Saffron Nia

Yay Grin thanks! Damian is out because I'm not keen, Dominic out as we know a Dominic (ex-boss).

I'm so glad you suggested Celyn Grin me and BF both love Celyn but keep getting side-tracked by other names. Angharad is another beautiful one but I struggle rolling my 'r's (fluent in Welsh but born in England). Same for Eleri and to some extent Cerys and Carys.

Thank you Grin

Saffron Dilys

We were going to use Dilys as a first name if we'd had a girl.

It's welsh and begins with D!

Dexter for a boy?

Had a primary school teacher called Dilys; she was horrible and we were glad when she retired. God, I seem to have so many bad reasons for turning down names Angry

Dexter's Lab Blush sorry

OP - why have you included Edward when you don't like it and OH only likes it for the word 'Teddy' which won't actually be used??!

Report
BananaHammocks · 26/09/2013 20:12

Maybe she's looking for other names that could be shortened to Teddy?

Edmund, Edgar, Edwin, Eddison?

moominleigh94 · 26/09/2013 20:12

Bowlers - we wanted one name from my family and one from his, so I picked Rhys and he picked Edward. I should've been clearer; he only likes it as a first name for the nn Teddy, I think he'd prefer it as a mn.

Ieuan is the greatest welsh name there is.

sonlypuppyfat My brother is Euan so that's out Grin

Banana I'm not overly fussed on Teddy (and yes I'm a Maybie, or possibly April depending on whether it's on time or late!), more for OH's sake although he's said he's pretty relaxed about it.

Gwen is out as a middle name because we know someone less-than-wonderful with it Wink and Dougie's out because it's the name of my housemate and we'd never recover from his ego Grin

I don't think there is anything wrong with Ted for an adult but perhaps I am in the minority here. Definitely Edward or other as a full name to revert to if he doesn't want to be called Ted or Teddy anymore.

I just don't like Edward as a first name. Fine with it as a middle name, and don't particularly hate it... I just don't think it goes with our names and isn't something I'd pick.

Dale
Dane
Darren
Darrel
Derek
Dennis
Denzil - this is cool
Dermot
Desmond
Dickon - this is also cool
Donald
Drew
Duncan

From my baby name book. I have to admit the only ones I like are:
Dickon
Drew
Duncan
Denzil

Drew is a family name (Dad and Grandad are both Andrew, and my brother was going to be Drew before they decided on Euan). That's why we like Dylan Rhys Edward... surname begins with W, so the initials spell Drew (a happy coincidence, we didn't realise it until we read it!)

So I like it, but I don't like the idea of initials spelling out the first name. God I'm picky Hmm

I think Dylan Rhys Edward is good, is there something you're not sure about or are you just looking for other ideas so you don't miss something you might like better?

Yeah, just basically want people to suggest things so I can see if there's anything I prefer Grin

Thing is, every "predictor" and everyone who knows reckons it'll be a girl... whereas I'd quite like a boy just to give him that name Grin

If you don't like Edward how about Evan? I love the name Evan but DH doesn't because of the pain in the bum kid who lives behind us!

I was going to say Rhian for a girl is lovely, but if you aren't good with your R's maybe that's out.

Ceri (as in the Welsh Kerry) is also a nice girls name.

BF will never agree to Dewi ;) it's a version of his name.

My brother's name is constantly misspelled as Evan, so he'd kill us if we chose that Grin

Thanks for the suggestions guys, really appreciate it :)

I think Dylan Rhys Edward sounds lovely! Slightly biased in thinking Dylan is a fab name choice lol. Mine also has 2 family names as mn, his daddy's name and my grandads name/dads mn.

Love Carys for a girl but it's a friends DDs name so we can't use. Other Welsh names I like are; Bethan, Bronwyn, Cerys, Ffion, Megan, Seren, Tegan. Not sure if any of those sound very nice after Saffron though as most have the same 'n' sound at the end.
