Underused classic or terrible 80s middle name?

I can't stop thinking about this but cant decide if it is pregnancy hormones or genuine like?

I like it, have considered it twice but not gone for it. Not sure what held me back. But overall for me it is an underused classic.

A friend has just named their DD Marie. I like both.

It's getting more popular and most people will have heard of it in some way.

Currently at 94 in the rankings I think.

I think it is a beautiful name that will come back but like you say it was overused. As a child I would tell people my name was Maria... Which it was not lol but I loved it!

Everyone can spell it and pronounce it. It's nice.

Wouldn't have thought it particularly 80s, more timeless. It's lovely. Plus it has the bonus of at least 3 songs you'll be able to sing to your DD (Maria from West Side Story, the song from Sound of Music, and the Blondie song).

My mum is called Maria. I think it's a beautiful, timeless name. I've been wondering if it'll ever make a comeback since it's so pretty!

Some will call it classic and timeless, I just think it is unremarkable. Also in my head I always think Maria diahorrea sp?

It's lovely. My DD's middle name is Mary after her Grandma but I often say Maria as I think it is much prettier. It flows better. I do like names ending in 'A'

I like it. :)

FingersCrossedLegsNot - don't you think that's a bit silly though? I mean, Maria doesn't even rhyme with the word you just mentioned (which I can't spell either!). You might as well say that about any name ended in 'ia', really, and there are a lot.

Is it 80s? I was born in early 80s & have never had a Maria contemporary.

squoosh · 16/09/2013 10:29

I don't think it's an 80s name at all. It's beautiful and much, much better than weedy Marie.

I know a 3 yr old Maria.

I think it's a lovely name, it has the classic ring of so many popular names these days, yet it's not overused.

lovely and timeless. If I ever have another girl it will be a definite contender.

DD is Maria.

Very international name, which was important for us as a multicultural family, traditional name of saints and queens in Europe. Doesn't get more classic .

My DD goes to school with a Maria age 7.

I think it's a lovely name.

Nadiawadia, I just remember a classmate growing up constantly being teased with it. It's just an association I have.....silly as it is!

There is nothing wrong with the name as such, but to me it's blah.
