A sibling for Xavier

Hi, I have never posted here before, but wanted some unbiased advice on a sibling name.

My DS1 is called Xavier (prn Zay - vee- er)

and for my bump if a boy we are thinking: Roman, Jackson or Tadhg
and if a girl (we both really don't like girls names!) are thinking: Noah, Ivy, Ngaio or Kieren

what do people think? any other suggestions?

Xavier is a traditional French name so I would pick something similar (either French or traditional or both)

for boys: Louis, Philip, Oliver, Quentin, George, Emmanuel...
for girls: Florence, Emilie, Sophie, Anne, Alice, Elise, Marianne, Estelle...

I would assume Noah and Kieren were both boys names. I have never before heard of Ngaio and have no idea how to pn it. Please let me know...

I like noah and kieren for a girl - even though they are boys names! we tend to like solid, tomboy-ish names for girls as oppose to girly names.

Xavier is traditionally a French name, but we have no French connection so don't want to run with that as a 'theme'?

I like Noa (spelled this way) and Ivy for a girl. I don't like any of your boys names with Xavier, which is a fab name, they just seem random.

I don't like the idea of giving a boys name to a girl tbh. It could prove awkward growing up in school etc. kind of like the song 'a boy named Sue'. Why not use an unisex name like Alex, Jess etc?

I had never heard of that song until i just googled it but we actually do know a boy, well a man named Sue, full name susung (sp?) from Japan and he is lovely :)

besides, in the song at the end the dad explains, and the son understands and accepts his stronger more resilient character because of the name he was given?!

I think children accept other children regardless of their names. don't you think?

The boys names are a varied bunch! I wouldn't put Roman, Jackson or Tadhg with Xavier.

Noah for a girl is spelt Noa, Kieren for a girl is......odd. Ngaio is ummm.....interesting.

Ummm, the song is just a story though OP, I don't think any sane person would actually advise anyone to call their son Sue.

I am female and know I wouldn't like to be named Noah, Kieren or Sue or even John for that matter. But what do I know.....it's your choice but I'd bear inind that you won't be the one going through life with the name.

while Kieran without the e is also a popular hindu girls name.

So even, if people say they are boys names who says we have to go with it? who is making up this rules?!

For what it's worth (and that's not much!) I love Xavier but dislike all of your suggestions for boys and girls and would be particularly hesitant to give a girl a name that is primarily associated with boys EVEN IF it is a actually a girls' name too (and vice versa).

The fact is that however much you may not like girls' names, your (potential!) daughter is going to have to live with the name and may herself prefer something feminine. I would therefore be tempted to take the middle line and give her a girls' name than can be shortened to a boys' name, e.g. Jolanda (but call her Jo) or Charlotte (but call her Charlie) or a name that simply sounds like a boys' name when spoken, eg. Robyn.

That aside, as a purely French name for a girl, what about Ines? (I think this may be due an accent over the "e" but my computer is not having it!). Alternatively, simply as an unusual name, how about Aino (which is Finnish and means "The only one") or perhaps Esme or Eira (Swedish for snow and, I think, may have a Welsh meaning, too)? Alternatively, I like the Nordic name "Berit" which has the meaning "splendid" (which, incidentally, is the same meaning as Xavier in Arabic).

For a boy, how about Espen?
