I have always liked both these names. What do they say to you?

Rhubarbgarden Sun 13-Oct-13 19:50:04

I think Tabitha is a beautiful name. I don't like Jemima.

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 19:43:43

Haha ok, well of course it's all just opinions isnt it, if we all agreed then all our kids would be called the same 10 names smile

Emmabombemma Sun 13-Oct-13 19:39:11

Sorry Tallulah I don't mean you, just in general people seem to have the same opinion. Just sticking up for the Tabithas smile

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 19:35:52

Not unimaginative, just know lots of cats called that name. Geez wish I'd never commented now, was a light-hearted comment grin

Emmabombemma Sun 13-Oct-13 19:30:36

Fair enough. Op - to me Tabitha is a strong, biblical name which is classic and not too popular. You will always get the cat comments because people are unimaginative, but If i were you I wouldn't let it stop you using it. It is just a name like any other which some people chose to use it for their pets (It's not tiddles or fluffy FFS) x

ProfondoRosso Sun 13-Oct-13 19:27:00

Tabitha is good - it can sound like quite a strong, dignified name.

Not keen on Jemima, I'm afraid - I just keep thinking Puddleduck!

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 19:25:32

Well, just one is. I know no cats called Jemima wink

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 19:23:25

Yes, if you know lots of them - the OP asked what the names said to us, didn't she? To me, they are cat names.

Emmabombemma Sun 13-Oct-13 19:06:43

My cats are Toby and Oscar- does that make them cats names?

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 19:05:38

I know 3 cats called Tabitha. <Gavel> grin

Emmabombemma Sun 13-Oct-13 18:15:09

Tabitha is a biblical name, not a cats name.

TallulahBetty Sun 13-Oct-13 17:47:36

Tabitha is awful and a cat's name. Jemima lovely.

ringaringarosy Sun 13-Oct-13 08:09:20

in fact so is tabitha!

ringaringarosy Sun 13-Oct-13 08:09:10

i dnt think tabitha and jemima are that cutesy, not as much as daisy, lily, poppy, rosie etc.their also quite classic,Jemimas in the bible!

GatoradeMeBitch Sat 12-Oct-13 20:47:34

Of course they were... So were Maud and Vera, but they don't fit in with the cutesy-wutesy retro fad.

ringaringarosy Fri 11-Oct-13 19:22:01

im pretty sure tabitha and jemima were around before cath kidston.

GatoradeMeBitch Tue 08-Oct-13 14:05:42

They are 'Cath Kidston' pretend vintage bunting type names. I know three under-five Tabithas, and one Jemima.

They're not quite as ubiquitous as Lily and Amelia though.

DitsyDonkey Tue 08-Oct-13 11:51:57

Love both and both are on my list!

ringaringarosy Tue 08-Oct-13 10:56:23

And i dont mind about the Tabitha-cat thing either,i like cats, ive got 4!

ringaringarosy Tue 08-Oct-13 10:55:41

I havea Tabitha and am due another girl in december,i am thinking of calling her Jemima!I quite like the beatrix potter connection i think its cute!

serin Sun 01-Sep-13 18:38:29

I like them both and they were both 'possibles' for DD.

shockers Sun 01-Sep-13 18:31:59

I love them both. Jemima is DD's middle name and would have been her first name, had she not arrived ready supplied with one of her own!

Jakeyblueblue Sun 01-Sep-13 18:27:03

I love them both and suggested them to dh before we knew ds was a boy but he vetoed them.
He said that Jemima was a ducks name and tabitha was a cats name. grin

DalmationDots Fri 30-Aug-13 23:02:54

All a bit twee, beatrix potter ish for me.
Don't like tabitha at all, tabby is a horrible nn and it all just reminds me of a cat.
Jemima is ok but ruined for me by every Jemima I've met being a bit bossy, know-it-all types!
Sorry!

Could someone explain the racial issue please?
