What do you think? Pronounced as La-oo-ra

Erm. No. People will just think you've misspelled Laura.

Many countries pronounce Laura more like Low-Ra so maybe you could go that route...

I think she would spend a lifetime saying: "No, not Laura, La-oo-ra"

num3onway · 26/08/2013 08:38

Lorah is a pretty spelling I think

It sounds like you need the loo-raaaa.

Sorry. Grin

Ugh! Looks awful written down, will be mispronounced or assumed to be spelt wrong and is a weird name to say aloud.

sooperdooper · 26/08/2013 08:42

No sorry she and you will spend her entire life explaining its not Laura spelled wrong

Report
bridgetsmum · 26/08/2013 08:42

No.
Agree it looks like Laura spelled wrong, so does Lorah!!

If you want to call your child Laura, which is a beautiful name, just use the traditional spelling.

And if you want to call your child La-oo-ra, well, just don't

Awful!

Sounds awful.
Looks awful.

Just .. why?!

RufousBartleby · 26/08/2013 08:46

Please dont OP Laura is a beautiful name. Adding an O in the middle just looks weird.

If you want something similar to Laura, maybe consider names like Lara, Lorelei, Lauren, Laurel, Lori, Lorna. I agree with everyone else that Laoura just looks like another name spelt wrongly.

What everyone has said.

Ooh, now I feel inconsistent, because I defended Amabel on another thread against the charge of being 'Annabel spelt wrong', as it's an old an beautiful name in its own right. But I'm sorry, 'Laoura' is Laura spelt wrong. No way round it...

It's Spanish isn't it? I prefer it to Laura actually.

Yes the Spanish way of saying it, but I am convinced it will not work, thank you for the tips.

It is spelled Laura in Spain, but pronounced La-oo-ra

I thought it was pronounced Lau-ra... As in L.ow (I hurt my toe ow) ra. It is in Italian anyway I can ask my Spanish friend tomorrow but I'd be amazed if it was pronounced Laoora.

She will forever get an eyebrow raise and folk spelling and saying it wrong. Also feels strange on my tongue.

Report
LittleBearPad · 26/08/2013 17:24

Captain is right about the pronunciation in Spanish. There are two syllables only.

Report
CaptainJamesTKirk · 26/08/2013 17:26

You could always go for Lowri (nice welsh girls name).

Report
Capitola · 26/08/2013 17:29

It's horrid and looks mangled written down.

I have an Italian friend Laura, which is pronounced 'Loura'. But English people automatically pronounce it Laura.

That is not the Spanish pronunciation...

Report
Snatchoo · 26/08/2013 17:37

Yes it's pronounced Lowra like ow not low in Spanish. The Spanish don't separate their syllables quite so much!

And it's vile. Lora is a real spelling. I like Luisa as well, has a harder S than Louisa which is more of a Z sound (if you are after a Spanishy name).
