is Catherine too boring?

Because its just about the only female name we have both said we like!

The full name would be Catherine Ellen name (one syllable last name).

Looking for unusual nn from Catherine too:

Kate / katie
cathy /cath , dont like.
Kitty

any more ideas folks? Thanks.

I like Catherine in full and like Cathy and Kitty as nn don't think they are boring at all

It's not boring, it's classic! Romantic associations too (Wuthering Heights, etc).

Wow thanks for the quick response. Im torn between wanting a classic and a less popular name. Dh has very few ideas of his own!

for more unusual short forms - Cat? and I think in Scotland they use Rina/Rena?

I like it, but I suggest you will be unable to stop others calling her Cath / Cathy once she is at school etc. - if you don't like the usual shortenings, then it might be best not to use it, although I think it's a lovely name Smile

One of my DDs is Catherine with nn, kitty. I still love it but I do regret not calling her Katherine instead as it annoys her that her nn and actual name begin with a different letter. I also quite like the look of it with a K.

I don't think it will ever go out of fashion. It's just one one those names that is always there but never in the top 10, at least not these days.

I love Catherine. I prefer Katharine/Katherine if using the nn's Kitty/Kate/Katy though

I have one, and call her Kit or Kitten (she's only four!). Her big brother, however, does call her Kath. Sigh.

Thanks everyone, your positive responses are increasing my enthusiasm for it!

I have a Katherine, nn Kathy (she chose that one herself) and therefore of course it is an elegant, beautiful name (she's 13).
One of our ideas had been to call her Erin as a nn, but she was just Katherine for 10 years.

Grin I actually like the K version with the a rather than the e as in my nn but feel it would always be misspelt.

I have a Catherine, much prefer it with a C. Her friends mostly call her by her full name but occasionally Cat. I call her Kit Cat Smile

Mmmm c or k? Think I also prefer the k too!

God I hope she wouldn't be a kitty that became obsessed with hello kitty, and then want a real kitty, im allergic to cat totally overthinking this now

I quite like the 'C', but agree with others that if you are going for a particular nn that tarts with a K, then it's a lot easier to spell the full name with a K too.

I know of one spelt Cathryn as another option for you...

Lovely. I wouldn't worry about a nickname- they will probably choose something different later.

Prefer it with a C. Like Cat as a nickname.

Cate is nice too.

I do think it's very boring.

It's nicknames are marginally less snoozesome.
