Baby names

Suggestions please - classic Greek origin names

DS has a classic, Greek origin name - think Alexander, known as Alex.

I am looking for something similar for DC2 - don't know if it will be a boy or girl yet so looking for ideas for both. Something not super-popular/top 10 would be ideal.

I love Philip for a boy. Classic, underused. Philip was the father of Alexander the Great, and it means "friend of horses".

For a girl, you can't beat Ariadne

Thanks, I love Ariadne and Daphne, Penelope is nice too.

Boys names seem a bit harder - Phillip and Nicholas seem inoffensive but aren't grabbing me. Sound like people I went to school with iyswim.

Penelope, Ariadne and Hector are all going on my list.

Unfortunately DP hates Daphne :(

I don't think Artemis, Thaddeus and Leonidas quite pass the "shouted in Asda" test Grin

Do you think Nell/Nellie works as a shortening of Penelope? Not so fond of Penny.

I suppose so, but they're usually shortenings of Helen/Eleanor/Elena - don't know why, as they don't have 'nel' in and Penelope does!

Leander/Theodore for a boy. I love ancient greek names (being myself half Greek) but the problem is they sound so much better in Greek. Sadly, most of them would never pass the "shouted in Asda" test!! hahaha

I think it's slightly easier when it comes to girls. I like Agathe/Agatha,
Agnes, Alexandra, Berenice, Chloe, Chrysanthe, Eugenia, Helena, Melissa/Melitta/Melina, Roxane, Sophia and Zoe.

I love Parascevi, which can be shortened to Evi for a girl. That will be my daughter's name in my next life timeSmile

I went to school with a boy named "Orion", which I've always thought was nice and doesn't sound too pretentious. He could be "Ori" for short.
