Tate or Tully?

Opinions? For a girl. They go very nicely with our surname which is feminine so sets off the masculinity.

Also any names similar. I also like Kate but it is too popular (and dated imo).

Sorry, no to both.

Tate makes me think of Tate & Lyle sugar manufacturers and Tully sounds more like a surname....

KristinaM Mon 19-Aug-13 05:00:30

Neither

kiwik Mon 19-Aug-13 05:36:16

Ooh, neither for a girl.
I know a little boy Tate, and an adult Tate (also male), but don't think it's a very feminine name at all.
And Tully is just a bid odd and surnamey. And is making me think of that big monster in Monsters Inc for some reason.

kiwik Mon 19-Aug-13 05:36:59

The Monsters Inc monster is Sully - that's why I was thinking it! Knew it hadn't popped into my head completely willy-nilly...

I actually like Tate but only if you can deal with people not liking it or considering it 'odd'
Tully I really don't like - makes me think of Tulisa ie the X factor judge who was done for drug dealing!
What about Cate as a compromise between Kate and Tate?

Both yuck IMO.

Tate is a boys name and Tully is the surname of the actress who played Michelle Fowler!

I wouldn't use either on a girl, and probably not Tully at all.

(Together they do come across as an homage to actors Catherine and Michelle).

SorrelForbes Mon 19-Aug-13 06:59:32

I know a Tully in the US. She's 7

buttercrumble Mon 19-Aug-13 07:01:17

Sorry don't like Tully at all, Tate is better but there are much nicer names out there.

ChristineDaae Mon 19-Aug-13 07:06:35

Definitely Tate.

Coconutty Costa Rica Mon 19-Aug-13 07:07:49

Neither, both would be bad enough for a boy but certainly not for a girl.

HorizontalRunningOnly Mon 19-Aug-13 07:10:45

Neither they are boy sounding names unless ur American and live in America where u might get away with Tate for a boy / sorry!

sleepywombat Mon 19-Aug-13 07:12:01

Neither. I know a Tully and a Tate, but they are both boys & not keen on the names anyway.

Kate is nice!

curlew Mon 19-Aug-13 07:21:23

Neither. And is Kate popular? I don't think I know any little Kates?

carben Mon 19-Aug-13 08:02:55

Tully is a nickname for Natalie (or at least it was in the book by Paullina Simons). I quite like actually. Tate not so much.

TheBleedinObvious Mon 19-Aug-13 10:40:59

Ok so not popular then.

Kate is a bit dated as i have known quite a few aged 15-40 years. I will think about Cate.

How about Tatum?

I'm surprised people don't like Tully. I see it as pretty close to Lily and Ali and other short names ending with -ee sound but not as feminine as those.

Any ideas of a full name which could have Tully as a nickname?

Bowlersarm Mon 19-Aug-13 10:44:42

Tallulah?

Tulisa?

TheAwfulDaughter Mon 19-Aug-13 10:48:51

Please use Tate, it's beautiful. Such a pretty sound, and she'll be the only one. I read a feature in a magazine about an interior designer, and she had a lovely 9 year old DD called Tate. Their life looked fabulous and I've loved it ever since. I know you have a feminine surname, but I think you need a sumptuous name as a middle name though, not May or Rose or anything one syllable

Tate Elizabeth
Tate Seraphina
Tate Josephine
Tate Marguerite

Tully makes me think of Susan Tully from Eastenders ('Chelle)

Tate makes me think of poor Sharon Tate. sad

TBH I clicked on here because I saw the link on most active, and had the following thought process:

Tate or Tully? God hope that isn't a baby name thread, hope it's a dog or which surname to use. [click] Christ! It IS a baby name thread! Poor little boy [Thread comes up] Ay carumba! It's for a GIRL!!

thistlelicker Mon 19-Aug-13 10:54:04

Neither sorry! And Kate just reminded me of the princess!

TheAwfulDaughter Mon 19-Aug-13 10:56:04

Tully is ridiculous. I love masculine girls names, but if you're going to go with something frilly as Tully... What's the point?

Also...

Quinn
Morven
Joss
Bronte
Gretchen

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 19-Aug-13 11:17:14

Neither, not just ridiculous, but ugly as well. Why would you?

Weegiemum Argentina Mon 19-Aug-13 11:21:22

balloonslayer you just reported my entire thought process on seeing the thread!

Please neither. Tate seems very masculine and I only ever knew one Tully, and hat was a friend's boy guinea pig and she made the name up.
