Having just been laughed at by DH (and all of you!) for my suggestion of Herb, DH has suggested Humphrey.
What do you all think of that. I quite like it. I also like Huxley, but he thinks that is a dogs name!

mootime Sun 04-Aug-13 15:34:33

Alma, that's ok. I agree they are a simiar tone.
I do like Hubert, but think we can't have anything ending in "Bert" incase school friends etc choose the nickname Bertie (which is how we refer to Ds1).
Thinking of stealing Montgomery (Monty) from another thread!

almapudden Sun 04-Aug-13 02:33:07

Oh sorry op, I wrote that post before I read your post about your children's names. But it is very similar in tone!

I know a lovely, very cool teenage Hubie (Hubert) - I like it a lot as a name.

almapudden Sun 04-Aug-13 02:29:18

I really like it but I'm not sure I would...it's very Edwardian. Mind you, there are loads of Alberts and Wilfreds around these days, and it's not that different in tone.

Raymond
Ignatius (Iggy)
Conrad
Eugene
Hoagy (as in 'Carmichael'?)

I rather like Wilfred, Thea and Edmund...

Wilfred, Thea and Gerald
Wilfred, Thea and Irwin
Wilfred, Thea and Eustace
Wilfred, Thea and Floyd
Wilfred, Thea and Percy
Wilfred, Thea and Orson
Wilfred, Thea and Morley
Wilfred, Thea and Lionel

Humphrey is a great name - I have a childhood friend with that name in RL and he is fab. My only other associations are Bogart and Lyttelton, both super cool dudes. Herb is nice too but I think would usually be assumed to be a diminutive of Herbert?

rosyryan Fri 02-Aug-13 22:16:09

I think it's hideous but it takes all sorts to make a world!

Littlecherublegs Fri 02-Aug-13 22:12:11

Ok will have another go! Some random names that popped into my head:

Emmett
Julian
Quentin
Patrick
Ezra
Roland
Douglas
Timothy
Keith
Angus
Donald
Amos
Bruce
Edmund
Dennis
Jed
Edgar

KateCroydon Fri 02-Aug-13 21:14:46

Kinda like it.

mootime Fri 02-Aug-13 19:37:30

Well, if you could see the size of me you might well think the later!
I'm also not going to discount a name from a poor reaction here. It's just good to gauge its reception, and get ideas. I LOVE all my children's names, and they all get a great reaction in real life, but a fairly mixed one on here.

I love Rupert and Hugo but DH thinks they are too posh.
He's also vetoed Kit and Sidney, just because...

I guess I'm hoping to find something that I love as much as my other dc names.

ThatsSoVanquish Fri 02-Aug-13 18:45:30

Just to clarify, are you having a baby or an ickle tiny elephant?

umbrellahead Fri 02-Aug-13 17:37:00

You're children's names are all gorgeous and vastly nicer than Humphrey! There is nothing wrong with Humphrey though so I wouldn't discount it just because it's not to the taste of some strangers on the internet. As for suggestions, how about -

Rupert
Hal
Leopold
Jasper
Miles
Louis
Edwin
Sidney
Kit
Chester

mootime Fri 02-Aug-13 11:08:53

Ah so not all bad taste then!
Quite like Moss or Maurice, but not sure if it goes. Although very good with our surname.

squoosh Fri 02-Aug-13 10:56:38

Mootime I'd like to make amends for my somewhat harsh response to Herb and Humphrey by telling you that Thea is one of my very favourite girls names.

squoosh Fri 02-Aug-13 10:46:30

I know a little Irish Moss alark, he is gorgeous and really suits his name. Just don't call him Mossie!

Littlecherublegs Fri 02-Aug-13 10:43:05

I know an Albert who has a brother Earnest and a Wilfred who has brothers Arthur & Frank.

I love Thea!

You may also like:
Edwin

Conrad
Victor
Lionel

Geoffrey
Kenneth (I know a baby Kenny!)

alarkthatcouldpray Fri 02-Aug-13 10:02:57

If you like Herb maybe you'd like Moss? Short for Maurice here in Ireland but now a name in its own right.

mootime Fri 02-Aug-13 09:58:37

Ok. So likely to out myself in RL by giving out my other DC's names, but its mid thread so pretty hidden!

We had an Albert (Bertie) who died, hence no Herbert. Our living children are Wilfred and Thea.
If its a boy, it doesn't have to start with an H at all. Anything really.

So please suggest others!

cuillereasoupe Fri 02-Aug-13 07:45:12

I don't like it. If you want an unusual-ish H name, how about Howard?

LazyMonkeyButler Thu 01-Aug-13 22:29:15

Are you willing to share your other DCs names? It might help us to think of something that would go nicely, that you or DH haven't currently thought of.

HoikyPoiky Thu 01-Aug-13 22:27:25

No, no and triple no. It's awful.

LazyMonkeyButler Thu 01-Aug-13 22:26:37

This is the only Huxley I know of.

Humphrey is just nasty.
