Very popular but a nice name.

I think it is quite popular but I wouldn't let that put you off as it such a beautiful name Smile

Saying that, I only know one Ella so maybe it just depends where you are?

Is it popular to the point that it's become too common, hence will date quickly?

It probably will date a bit yes, but so do most names to be honest, some just quicker than others. It's hard to predict how a name will be viewed in 25 years time.

I don't think of it as 'common' but it is a popular name. When I think of common names, it's usually Lily-Mai/May or Lily-Grace but only because I know of 4 little girls named that (no offense to any Lily's out there because it is still a pretty name and my favourite flower).

I don't think it will date either. When I hear the name Ella I always think of Ella Fitzgerald and to me she's a timeless lady!

It's a nice name, but very overused.

Very popular and also makes me think of "kitchen"!

I love it!

Have known three in my life, one is probably late 20s now, one is 14 and one is 5! So on that basis, I would say it won't date!

Sadly I couldn't use it as one of the three is a close relative, but it would have been on my list if not Smile

I think it is a wasted opportunity tbh. Lots of absolutely delicious names can be shortened to Ella (Annabel, Isabella, Clarabelle etc ) .

It also bothers me that on its own it means "she" in various languages. It doesn't really have an identity of its own iyswim - which is an appealing factor to many people I'm sure.

It's pretty

but Ella, Ellie, Ellis are all very popular

I love it, although it is quite popular. I don't think it will date, my 90yo gran has the name and a 32yo friend. It ages well and will continue to be used as its so lovely.

It is a nice name, very popular though. People may well "shorten" it to Ellie - would that bug you?

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 27/07/2013 11:30

Very popular. Nice enough but a bit boring for my taste.

Report
Alisvolatpropiis · 27/07/2013 11:36

It seems incomplete to me.

I've not met any little ones called it yet.

Report
deepfriedsage · 27/07/2013 11:40

I would go with a longer name and shorten to Ella.

But my Nana was called Ella (she be 100 this year!) and I've always thought it was a lovely name.

Love the name Ella. It's vintage and back in fashion. If I was having a girl I would love to call her Ella
