What do you think of it as a name? And is it really that popular?

Don't know re. Popularity.

But I like it grin

ch1134 Fri 26-Jul-13 13:33:28

it's very popular

squoosh Fri 26-Jul-13 13:35:06

Very popular but a nice name.

mamaknows Fri 26-Jul-13 13:58:15

I think it is quite popular but I wouldn't let that put you off as it such a beautiful name smile

Saying that, I only know one Ella so maybe it just depends where you are?

Is it popular to the point that it's become too common, hence will date quickly?

mrsravelstein Fri 26-Jul-13 14:01:10

massively popular. there are TONS of them. it's a nice name, though.

It probably will date a bit yes, but so do most names to be honest, some just quicker than others. It's hard to predict how a name will be viewed in 25 years time.

mamaknows Fri 26-Jul-13 14:04:25

I don't think of it as 'common' but it is a popular name. When I think of common names, it's usually Lily-Mai/May or Lily-Grace but only because I know of 4 little girls named that (no offense to any Lily's out there because it is still a pretty name and my favourite flower).

I don't think it will date either. When I hear the name Ella I always think of Ella Fitzgerald and to me she's a timeless lady!

willyoulistentome Fri 26-Jul-13 14:05:19

It's a nice name, but very overused.

ZolaBuddleia Fri 26-Jul-13 14:44:10

Lovely name, but there seem to be bazilions of them.

wigglesrock Fri 26-Jul-13 15:14:06

I think it's a beautiful name, I know a few but I also know 2 Astrids born within 5 weeks of each other and at last count 4 Arthurs <shrug> The youngest Ella I know is 5 now.

NotMyChashkaChai Fri 26-Jul-13 15:41:27

Very popular and also makes me think of "kitchen"!

I love it!

Have known three in my life, one is probably late 20s now, one is 14 and one is 5! So on that basis, I would say it won't date!

Sadly I couldn't use it as one of the three is a close relative, but it would have been on my list if not smile

I think its a nice name, but yes its popular at the moment.

Makes me think of rain. that song umber- ella- ella- ella-ella

I think it is a wasted opportunity tbh. Lots of absolutely delicious names can be shortened to Ella (Annabel, Isabella, Clarabelle etc ) .

It also bothers me that on its own it means "she" in various languages. It doesn't really have an identity of its own iyswim - which is an appealing factor to many people I'm sure.

JamieandtheMagicTorch Fri 26-Jul-13 17:21:30

It's pretty

but Ella, Ellie, Ellis are all very popular

BNmum Fri 26-Jul-13 19:02:40

I love it, although it is quite popular. I don't think it will date, my 90yo gran has the name and a 32yo friend. It ages well and will continue to be used as its so lovely.

CruCru Sat 27-Jul-13 11:26:46

It is a nice name, very popular though. People may well "shorten" it to Ellie - would that bug you?

ScumbagCollegeDropout Sat 27-Jul-13 11:30:21

Very popular. Nice enough but a bit boring for my taste.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 27-Jul-13 11:36:17

It seems incomplete to me.

I've not met any little ones called it yet.

deepfriedsage Sat 27-Jul-13 11:40:26

I would go with a longer name and shorten to Ella.

squeak2392 Sun 28-Jul-13 02:54:30

I can't comment on how popular it is

But my Nana was called Ella (she be 100 this year!) and I've always thought it was a lovely name.

Love the name Ella. It's vintage and back in fashion. If I was having a girl I would love to call her Ella
