Twin sister for Alexander Michael

Following several losses over the past seven years we have always had our hearts set on Alexander for a boy. I was lucky enough to be blessed with twins and have a section booked for three weeks today, we are expecting a boy and a girl. We had pretty much decided on Claudia (no problem with the meaning and like the connection to classical history) but all of a sudden having a wobble about it and have gone back to the list.

We have a single syllable surname starting with S so prefer long names which so not end in s or soft c. My background is Spanish/Italian and we like classic English names or Spanish/Italian and nothing short and girly. I like Isabella and Florence but live in London and hear that they are very popular!

I would welcome your thoughts on our list below especially if there are any I have not thought off but would fit in. Please be gentle, it has taken many of years of heartache to get this far Smile

Caterina
Christina
Claudia
Daniella
Elisabetta
Francesca
Gabriella
Giovanna
Juliet
Lucia
Matilda
Paloma
Rebecca
Valentina
Violet

My favourites are...
Claudia
&
Lucia

Hmm, those two. I do like some others room, Juliet, Caterina, Paloma, and Rebecca.

But I really like Claudia and Lucia!

Congratulations by the way!

EatYourCrusts · 25/07/2013 12:40

I also rather like Maria.

dufflefluffle · 25/07/2013 12:41

Alexandra Michelle?? (I know someone who has something similar!!)
Seriously though, Claudia is beautiful as are Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesca and Caterina. Congratulations - you are very lucky.

MortifiedAdams · 25/07/2013 12:43

I really like Claudia.

Also,
Juliet and Matilda.

What about Natalia?

Cornwall73 · 25/07/2013 12:44

Thank you Smile, Claudia, Francesca and Matilda are still at the top of the list for me but all of a sudden DH, not known for soppiness, was concerned some of these would sound too harsh for a baby girl.

I have always liked Natalia but really don't like the inevitable shortening to Nat, same problem with Caterina - love it but would hate anyone calling my daughter (still can't get used to writing this) Cat.

Duffle, her brother will be Alexander otherwise yes Alexandra would have been on the shortlist Smile

Sorry meant to say that if we go for Claudia she will be Claudia Jean Otilia (after MIL and my mum).

Alexander is Scottish isn't it so how about Madeline?
Cecilly, Camilla, Clarissa, Arabella, Annabel perhaps?

SelectAUserName · 25/07/2013 13:24

You have some beautiful names on your list but the stand-out for me is Francesca - simply gorgeous.

forevergreek · 25/07/2013 13:30

I like Alexander and Juliet best

pommedechocolat · 25/07/2013 13:39

I love Valentina and if i didnt have such an 'English' surname would have loved to have used it.

I also love Rebecca but hate Becky so have never used it.

Violet is also standing out to me as a name I have never thought of (have 2 dds so have pondered girls names long and hard :)).

Do like Claudia as well though.

Massive congratulations, enjoy them!

manicinsomniac · 25/07/2013 13:53

Beautiful names. Really like Alexander too. Claudia is actually one of the ones on your girl's list I'm least keen on but it's a nice name.

Caterina - quite like it but prefer Catherine.
Christina - not that keen. It's pretty but seems a bit dated maybe
Claudia - quite like it and I've never met one
Daniella - quite like it
Elisabetta - not keen. Prefer Elizabeth but not keen on that either.
Francesca - gorgeous name, love it
Gabriella - another gorgeous name
Giovanna - my daughter's middle name. Beautiful and unusual
Juliet - love it.
Lucia - don't like this
Matilda - one of my favourite names, love it
Paloma - don't like this
Rebecca - this is my name and, while I love it, beware of those who insist on murdering it with 'Becky' (at least 50% of my friends/family!)
Valentina -not keen on this
Violet - like it

So, in summary, I would choose, in order of preference: Giovanna, Matilda, Francesca, Rebecca, Gabriella, Juliet

Happymum22 · 25/07/2013 15:49

Congratulations, how exciting to have twins!

My opinions-

Caterina - bit sharp, not for me
Christina - bit dated
Claudia - lovely
Daniella - lovely
Elisabetta - no, sounds made up (sorry if it isn't!)
Francesca - OK
Gabriella - Quite nice
Giovanna - not for me
Juliet - not for me, don't like the -et sound at the end
Lucia - Love this
Matilda - Love this but quite popular at the moment
Paloma - No horrible!
Rebecca - Not for me, very common name for girls about 20 at the moment
Valentina - Quite like this, bit different but in a good way
Violet - Quite nice

Other suggestions you may like - Millicent, Theodora/Thea, Amelia/Amelie, Emmelina, Evangelina, Sabina, Sophia/Sofia, Zara, Darcy, Dulcie, Saskia, Cecilia, Fenella

wigglesrock · 25/07/2013 15:57

Francesca, Juliet and Lucia are my absolute favourites from your list :-) I heard someone call the name Lucia the other day and it was just lovely. But I know a baby Christina, you don't hear it as much any more and its really lovely.

Claudia is my husband's favourite baby name ever if that helps Smile

Slavetominidictator · 25/07/2013 16:04

I have a little Claudia, who is one, after several losses. Huge congratulations to you.
I still love her name. I like that it isn't so frilly. Claudia Jean is the full name of CJ Cregg from 'The West Wing' my hero.
If I had any Italian heritage at all, I'd be seriously considering Paloma or Valentina. They are beautiful and more sensuous than Claudia, IMO.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/07/2013 17:35

Another vote for Claudia!
Next Francesca then Lucia.

Other suggestion:
Adriana

PS Nat isn't the 'inevitable' abbreviation of Natalia, ime Talia is just as popular Smile.

sleepingbeautiful · 25/07/2013 18:20

I really like:
Alexander and Valentina
Alexander and Paloma

Congrats on the twins. I have G/B twins too, and yours will be worth the long wait :)

DizzyPurple · 25/07/2013 18:26

I have a Lucia. Get loads of comments on what a pretty name it is.
I do like Claudia, Francesca, Maria, Rebecca too.

DizzyPurple · 25/07/2013 18:29

I seem to like names that end in A! Just like you..
Aurelia? Arabella?

AndWhenYouGetThere · 25/07/2013 18:32

Claudia is lovely.

I think a baby Claudie could soften it for your partner, if he really can't see Claudia on her - though the full name is beautiful and elegant and gorgeous.

Juliet and Lucia are my other favourites from your list.

I think all 3 work well with Alexander.

Wildwaterfalls · 25/07/2013 18:38

I love Valentina. It doesn't have any harshness to it if your DH is worried about that. I know a gorgeous little Valentina!

Wednesbury · 25/07/2013 18:39

Congratulations! I like Alexander - its my DS name. My DD is called Elena (we pronounce it Elayna). Might be a bit overused for you if you're Spanish though? I did meet someone recently who knew BG twins named Alexander and Elena.

I always thought Claudia was lovely though.
