Chav names - is Christa one? Will Arabella turn into one in the future?

Is Christa a chav name? I think it's really pretty and love the name Christabel. But with so many names now being considered chav, I can't be sure.

I also love Arabella but it seems to be getting popular. As classy and elegant as it is, I'm not confident it's as chav proof as say Cordelia.

Fact is people do judge by names. I want to give my kids a good head start and not be teased. And yes, I want my kids to have aspirations in life.

It's got nothing to do with working class. Chav names to me mean, people that take beautiful names and destroy them with spelling to make them different. They call their kids after luxury brands or ridiculous made up names like some of the rich celebrities do. I personally find it tacky.

Judging by how many people on here like posh names; I doubt I am the only one that doesn't like chav names ;)

I only know one Christa - she is German and middle-aged. If you worry about "Chav" names, just call your child something more classical - Christine or Kristin.

Neither of these names are, or will be chavvy. If 'chavvy' to you only refers to names under the description you just gave, how could either of those names fall into that trap? Unless what you really mean is you don't want them to be 'common' or 'working class' sigh.

Well, I haven't heard anyone's opinions on Christa, that's why I asked.

Of course Arabella isn't now, but bell names are popular.
Working class have jobs. I am talking about if the chavs will eventually like Arabella and turn it into Aryabella or something like that. I don't see why they wouldn't like Arabella, a lot of chav names can be pretty. So why wouldn't it appeal?

Not sure about Christabel being a brand and I know Christabel itself will unlikely turn into a chav name. I'm more interested in Christa as that will be used the most.

Well 'Chav' certainly doesn't mean working class to me, I'm not sure why as soon as someone mentions the word people jump down their throat about them insulting the working class - it isn't the same thing at all and if you aren't sure what someone means by 'Chav' then lucky you for living in an area nice enough that you can be so sheltered!

Having said that I think there are very few names which most people would judge as 'chavy' (although admittedly there are some). When people meet you an your child they will form an opinion on you based on what you are like - if they purely judge you based on the name you have chosen then maybe they aren't the type of people whose opinion you should be interested in? As language says though, if this is something that concerns you then perhaps you would be better sticking to simple, classical names. Although who's to say that George and Charlotte aren't going to become 'chav' names of the future, you've just got to pick something you love.

Oh forgot to say that I'm not too keen on Christa, but quite like Arrabella. I don't think either of them are currently Chavvy, but who can predict how these things might change in the future. By Chav name I take you to mean a name you a going to hear screamed across Tesco by someone shopping in their PJ's with a fag in hand? Sorry if that offends anyone, but that is what I would consider a Chav name.
