Calling my baby same name as nieces brother

Bear with me...

My brother's daughter lives with her mum, as my brother and his ex split up when she was a baby. His ex already had two kids. I've never met her two other kids, and sadly don't have a close relationship with my family so see my brother and niece only about twice a year. Long story cut short...I forgot my nieces brother is called X and X is top of my list for baby names! Is it bad to use this name? Would it be weird to have a brother called the same as your cousin?? I'm pretty torn and selfishly a bit disappointed as its the only boys name I really like!

What do you think?
xx

I don't see a problem with that. She might think it's nice, especially if she gets on well with her brother.

I don't think that would be weird, sounds like it is more an extended family thing than close family. Go with the name you love, you'll regret it more if you dont use your favourite name in time, especially if you don't see your brotheir and neice very often and am guessing the neice's brother even less? Go for it! :-)

And yes to what bangs mccoy said, certainly when they are younger at least, kids get v excited when other kids they know have the same name as them or their siblings etc.

My husband and his sister both called their onstage same name. It struck as a bit odd when i Met him, but there's no reason why you cant.

Don't see a problem. My Dad is one of 12 and he has a sister called Jean, he married a Jean, his brother married a Jean and out of 30 cousins, two cousins are called Jean and another two cousins called Lynne. I also had an Uncle Byron and have a cousin Byron.

Onstage? Their sons.

Thanks so much - I feel better about it now. Just thought it might be another reason for my family to be difficult! x

I think it's ok, it's not like there is a set of grandparents that will have two grandchildren with the same name.

I have seen people ask if that is ok! Confused and some posters thought it was.

I have a brother, a cousin and an uncle with the exact same name. Also one of my cousins who passed away at birth was also given the name as well. It is a family name. Not something I would do myself though.

Your situation is different, your baby is not related to the child with the same name, so you have no reason not to use it.

Use it. As you say you have no relationship with him so I wouldn't even give it a second thought :)
