I have a Tabitha, middle name Marion, after mil.NOt foud out sex yet but if its a girl we definitly love Posy, very small possibility of using Josephine officially just in case and also because its dils mothers name.

All my children have family names as middle names and theres only really NIcola,Karen,Eleanor and Ethel left.I dont like the first two so i am thinking ethel?

I know its very old lady like but i do love granny chic? Also love Percy for a boy but dh doesnt like it and whenever ive mentioned it ive had looks of pure horror,so lets hope its a girl!

I also love granny chic, but not Ethelx For me it's on the Mildred and Deirde. Eleanor is lovely though, or if you're not such a fan could you do a 'version' of this like Ella, Elle, Elinor, Eleonora etc?

ElleCloughie · 02/07/2013 10:50

I think Posy is lovely, I've liked it ever since I read Ballet Shoes when I was little (about three sisters, Pauline, Petrova and Posy). My husband hates it though. I think Ethel or Eleanor would both work well, and are really nice names, and it's lovely to use a family name as a middle name -we're doing the same! I'm with you on Nicola and Karen, but at the same time although I hate my middle name, as I have grown up I really appreciate and respect it because it is after a close family member who had passed away before I was born. The personal connection means more to me than it being a pretty name!

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 02/07/2013 11:51

Oh Posy Ethel is gorgeous. It is the nicest combination I have seen posted in here for a long time!

Choccyhobnob · 02/07/2013 12:07

Sorry i really REALLY dislike Ethel! Eleanor would be lovely though!

sonlypuppyfat · 02/07/2013 12:09

What ARE you women thinking of?

BrianTheMole · 02/07/2013 12:12

Oh no, sorry I don't like the combination of the two. I can imagine that getting ripped apart by children at school.

kilmuir · 02/07/2013 12:13

ETHEL !!!
Eleanor is lovely

glastocat · 02/07/2013 12:18

Posy is twee, Ethel is just dreadful.

pinkmagic1 · 02/07/2013 12:20

Ethel really is taking granny chic to another level, Elenor however is a beautiful name that won't date.

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 12:22

Lovely names, but then I would like Posy, wouldn't I Wink

Justfornowitwilldo · 02/07/2013 12:27

Posy is not a name I can see on an adult.

MarthasHarbour · 02/07/2013 12:32

I dont like either of them sorry. Way too twee and trying too hard.

night1971 · 02/07/2013 12:34

Adorable. Very feminine.

SandraClegane · 02/07/2013 12:35

I'd choose Eleanor over Ethel. Not keen at all on Posy though, sorry!

Gumps · 02/07/2013 12:36

I love Posy and I too loved the story of Ballet Shoes.
If you and your dh love it do it. When we named ds2 my mum said no really what's his name?! But it suits him down to the ground and now even mum loves it. Or so she says...

RosesInTheRain · 02/07/2013 12:37

I think Ethel is too harsh compared to Posy, if that were her full name. But imo Josephine Ethel sounds good.

Onesleeptillwembley · 02/07/2013 12:38

Posy is OTT twee, and not a name to grow into. Ethel - hmmm, I personally don't like it but it's inoffensive. To reiterate; Posy - just don't.

PetiteRaleuse · 02/07/2013 12:39

Granny chic !!! Why not just say old fashioned names?

ladymontdore · 02/07/2013 12:45

Don't normally post on name threads but felt I must for the sake of your baby. Posy Ethel is a DREADFUL name, please don't do it!

Posy sounds like Posey(sp?) as in someone who is a poseur (sp? again). I know it means small bunch of flowers but that isn't the first think that comes to mind! And Ethel is awful. You might as well call her Stuck-up Muriel or something!

ChasedByBees · 02/07/2013 12:54

Really don't like it, sorry.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 02/07/2013 13:29

I think Posy-short-for-Josephine is lovely. Ethel would be a bit Hmm as a first name, but as a middle name, why not?

NowPlayingZone · 02/07/2013 13:30

Posy & Ethel are bith a bit marmite. If you're gonna go with posy, then I'd use Eleanor as a middle name, it would be easier on your dd in the long run.

Also think Josephine itself if much nicer than posy.

Betrayedbutsurvived · 02/07/2013 13:32

Sorry but Ethel is dreadful.

Scruffey · 02/07/2013 13:43

Posy is embarrassingly cutesy. It's ok on a baby, but no older.

Ethel is not really granny chic, it just conjures up visions of a grumpy old woman.

If you like those sorts of names, perhaps go with Ella, Poppy, Daisy, Annie, Evie...something a bit more usable.
