Would the Royal baby name put you off one you had chosen?

Sorry if this has been done before but I wondered what the general feeling is about naming a child in the next 6-12 months with the same name as the impending Royal sprog.

I am expecting DC2 in December and if it's a boy we are really keen on George but someone this morning said that is odds on favourite for Wills and Kate's baby if it's a boy.

It's really put me off, but am I being an idiot?

I am guessing lots of Williams were born in the early 80s and I can't say I think 'Prince William' any time I meet a Will...

It would put me off too. I was considering the name George too, but I'm due in 2 weeks and don't want to risk having the same name as the royal baby. Silly really but that's just me.

I'm due any time and thinking of waiting to choose a name until they have. This might be an excuse though as I've got no shortlist for either sex and am hoping it comes out with a label.

Yes it would put me off. I prefer unusual names or at least non top 50.

I've heard that Charlotte is odds on favourite for a girl, which thankfully isn't on my 'girls' list, so I think I will just keep my fingers crossed that it's a girl so I can keep George!

I am sure there will still be hundreds of other Georges born this year, just hopefully no Royal ones!

I think it would depend on the name.

From your title my immediate reaction was 'Yes it would' but then when I read it was 'George' probably not as it's a name that's already used A LOT so I don't think it would stand out - whereas something used less frequently used would.

I always wanted William (long standing family name) and Harry (husbands side of family)
Unfortunately, I only had one of those as people would have presumed we'd chosen them as Royal princes.
Worst thing is the one I chose has a 4 year old relationship with a girl called Kate arghhhhh

Yes. I am rather irrationally annoyed that DD's name is almost (slight change in spelling) one of the favourites for a girls name. There'll only be 18 months between them so when they are older people might say "oh, after Princess X?", as it's not the commonest of names.

Friend of mine just had a baby and moved George to middle name for precisely that reason. I'm due on the same day as the Duchess and to be honest, I think it's unlikely they'd use anything off our list but yes, I think it would put me off. However as you're not due until December, I wouldn't even worry about it yet.

I was due a week before the Duchess, but my daughter ended up arriving a little over 4 weeks early (perfectly healthy), so we went with our heart and named her Mary.

It's said to be a "contender" for the Most Important Baby Ever? but I can't see it myself.

If they do use it, well hey, we got their first!!

Our chosen name for Oct/Nov DS3 is a royal name. I'm going to have serious pangs if they use it.

I thought I was safe because I thought theirs would be a girl, but now I'm not so sure. Argh.

I agree with whoever said I don't think of Prince William anytime I meet a William even if its someone the same age as the royal William. I might query the wisdom of having two DC both with the same name as royals as another poster said she didn't feel she could have a William and Harry!

I'm sure for a while anyone with a dc roughly the same age and with the same name as the royal baby will get comments, but why let it ruin a name you otherwise love? Especially a popular name like George that won't only ever be the baby prince, everyone will know another George as well.

If they call the baby something outlandish and made up and you give your child the same name then I think you would get ridicule and tbh would probably deserve it! But I highly doubt the royal baby will have a made up name!

Alice is another name being guessed and DD is an Alice. Shes a year older but that won't make much of a difference in 20 years time when everyone will think I jumped on the bandwagon as they know three million other Alice's!

My brother was born on the same day as Prince Harry. My folks waited until the name had been announced before choosing one.

It is likely to be a very common name, so no. All the front-runners are names that I would class as unexceptional (George, Charlotte, Alexandra etc.

In the unlikely event that they went for something unusual, then I would probably avoid it.

I have heard someone betted 100 on Mary at the bookies and they thought they'd got a tip off.. we are going for Mary regardless... would be annoyed if they go for it.. but I honestly can't see why they would and we are going for it anyway.

I like Mary. I think Kate & William are pretty dull (in a nice way)and their choice won't be as surprising as Beatrice and Eugenie were at the time. So whatever she chooses, Mary, Jane, George, Frederick, I think it'll be a normal name or a name that is rising in popularity anyway. I'd put a fiver on that!
