Elodie vs Sophie?

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 21:52

Ok- I said the other day that the front runner often changes daily for me!

Which do you prefer, Elodie or Sophie?

Middle name Grace.

Sibling has name beginning with E.

I know that they're both popular names but I figure that's for a reason as I like them both!Smile

So, which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance!

Elodie is lovely.

QOD · 16/06/2013 21:57

Sophie is lovely, but I know a LOT of Sophie's aged 2 to 60+

I know no Elodies! Ad it's an utterly gorgeous name

betsybo · 16/06/2013 22:06

Elodie, definitely.

BackforGood · 16/06/2013 22:07

I wouldn't give 2 siblings the same initial. There are thousands of times throughout life when you just use an initial.

TallulahBetty · 16/06/2013 22:07

Elodie. Sophie is ok but I know many of them so it's a bit "meh" to me now.

notanyanymore · 16/06/2013 22:08

Love them both, wait and see which she suits best :)

deste · 16/06/2013 22:32

Sophie without a doubt. Elodie sounds made up.

EleanorFarjeon · 16/06/2013 22:38

Both are lovely, but Sophie is so popular. My dcs have/had 2 in each of their classes at primary. I love Elodie, but really dislike 'Ellie' which it would likely be shortened to. I know 2 Elodies, one known as Ellie and one as Lodie.

harverina · 16/06/2013 23:11

Both are lovely - I prefer Sophia to Sophie though.

MustafaCake · 16/06/2013 23:19

Elodie. Very elegant. And it's not made up, it's French innit?!

There are so many Sophies about! Much prefer Sophia/Sofia.

diamondsneezer · 16/06/2013 23:26

Not keen on Elodie and another vote for Sophia.

savoirfaire · 16/06/2013 23:27

Love Elodie. Wanted it for DD but was vetoed by DH for reasons that are consigned to the past. Sophie is lovely but way too popular IMVHO.

Ficidy · 16/06/2013 23:29

Don't like Sophie at all. Can't understand the infatuation with it because it reminds me of the word soapy (soapy water). Elodie is a beautiful, classic French name, but if it's growing in popularity that would put me off.

Breezy1985 · 17/06/2013 00:33

Love Elodie Smile

I don't really understand why Sophie is so popular, I know 3 born this year and there's a few in DC school. Much prefer Sophia.

bugsybill · 17/06/2013 03:37

Both are very nice. Elodie seems fresher and not as overused (yet) :)

howcomes · 17/06/2013 04:36

I like both, Elodie is probably more unusual, if you'd rather have a different initial you could add an M and have Melodie?

AmIGoingMad · 17/06/2013 07:58

Thanks for these replies ladies!

I'm not (too) bothered about popularity I don't think. I've been really keen on Elodie for a while now but my concern is that it would mean the same initial as my DS. Can't decide if that would bother me or not!

I prefer Elodie. And would use Sophia in preference to Sophie.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 17/06/2013 08:38

Sophie is hugely popular, but it won't date as Elodie will.

Sophia is even better. Classy, timeless, elegant. Lovely.

Elquota · 17/06/2013 09:43

Sophie is far more classic, and not over-popular now. Elodie is rather faddy.

AmIGoingMad · 17/06/2013 10:17

It's funny that a few have suggested Sophia- that was on the short list too and hasn't been totally discounted!

I think we have the same taste - DD was very nearly Sophie and I also love Elodie! (Went for Charlotte, nn Lottie in the end). It would be a close call between those two but personally i think Sophie just has the edge.

AmIGoingMad · 17/06/2013 12:47

Yes similar taste indeed!Smile Charlotte/Lottie is also lovely btw!

I love Elodie but fear it could well get shortened to the more popular Ellie!

AmIGoingMad · 17/06/2013 14:43

Yes I think it's difficult to know what people will shorten a name to and it'd be important to not dislike that version too. I know that Ellie is popular but I still think its pretty so that's not too much of a problem for me.
