Unusual boys name to go with surname ROCK

We currently like Cruz Romeo (pronounced the Italian way, with the accent on the last syllable instead of the first as you would pronounce it in English).

Our other son is called Jonas Andreas Roman and we call him Andreas.

Any other ideas or thoughts?

Why is he called Andreas if his first name is Jonas? Just curious really. I love Jonas but I don't think it's anything like as unusual as either Cruz or Romeo but using both together does rather make you sound like the world's biggest Beckham fan. Rock is quite a hard surname to live up to though. If you want something Italian sounding then how about Emilio/Emiliano or Dante?

The thing is that very few people in the UK will pronounce Romeo the way you want it initially, they will say it the English way, and a lot will carry on with that even if you say it the Italian way in front of them. Also, how do you want Cruz pronounced? A Spanish z? I would find that hard at short notice tbh. IMO a lot of people will say Cruise, is that OK for you? Cruise Rock?

I thought ds's name only had one syllable, but people manage to make it into two.

What is it about Cruz Romeo that you like, apart from the Beckham connection? How about Carl?

No, it isn't based on the Beckhams, didn't even know their kids were called that

I have to agree, separately fine names but together sounds like you're wanting to be a beckham.

There already is a Chris Rock in our family and he doesn't like his name because of obvious reasons

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 22:20:18

I don't think that was a serious suggestion.

lrock Sat 15-Jun-13 22:20:38

Because we like Andreas but to keep both families happy we needed a j initial

joanofarchitrave Sat 15-Jun-13 22:22:06

I'm actually deeply impressed that you wanted Cruz Romeo but had no idea about the Beckhams.

Crucifix Mercutio?

What?! Choose a name to make YOU as the parents happy, not the extended family! It's your kid, so call it Andreas if you want to. Then you can always be kind and give a middle name with a J. But don't get bullied on parenting decisions before this kid is even born, especially something as important as a name. It's something you'll use many many times a day for the next few decades! Phew...

happydutchmummy Sat 15-Jun-13 22:27:29

Whoops, just re read your post and see you already have a son with the j initial.... Ignore my rant.

Are you Italian? Do you want to stick to Italian names? I like Lucca (or is it Luca) and Leo(nardo) and Dante is pretty cool.

Don't use Romeo in an English speaking country if you don't like the "usual" Romeo pronunciation.

Dante is cool, but ideally I don't want it to be a name that an be shortened. We know a Dante and he is called Dan.

I am Dutch and my husband is Scottish, both our families are multicultural so it needs to be a name that is pronounced similarly in English and Dutch at least.
