...I am stuck. Terribly terribly stuck for a girls name. I keep seeing the same few names popping up here and there has to be more names in this big world of ours but why can't I find them? I am looking for a real name, not cutesy, not American sounding, not a name you'll come across every day, and a name that will carry through from baby to old lady. This is what most of us are looking for probably but the name pool seems so small. Also I have to 'love' the name, not merely 'like' it for how it will be perceived.

Names I am so weary of reading include:
Harriet
Isabel in all its variations including
Elizabeth
Florence
Ottilie
Alice
Charlotte
Ophelia
Penelope
Alexandra

Names I dislike include:
Evie, Ella, Amelia, Millie, Lily, Lola, Holly, Molly, Isla, Belle, Daisy, Ava etc
Also names such as Lauren, Michelle, Chantelle etc

Names I like but are far too popular:
Kate, Emily etc - basically names that cannot be aged and can be from any generation and/or Biblical names.

I particularly love names which have the letters X and Z but not Xanthe, Zara or Zoe please.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I meant Susannah..but you could shorten to Suki or Suzi?? Traditional, Classic, versatile. Not cute, but gorgeous sounding and would carry through all ages and isn't popular? xx

Quiet, 'Dalziel' is just pronounced 'Dee-El' isn't it? It is in Scotland anyway. smile

The Tamsins I've known didn't abbreviate.

How about Blaise? I've met a couple of female ones.

Tamsin is a great name with Zin as nn.

Have you considered any Old English names? There is a website that has the following listed as Old English girls names:

Aldercy
Arden
Audrey
Blythe
Claiborne
Corliss
Dawn
Demelza
Edolie

I have a friend called Tamzin and her nn is Tamz. But you might not like that either. You could go for Taz as a nn; but again, might not work for you.

I think Althea is lovely too
