Baby names

Soren / Sorell

I'm due in 11 weeks, with our second son (fourth child) and there are literally NO names. Other 3 have quite unusual names, but I can't say 'cos I've not told many people I'm pregnant.

We considered Frederick nn Fred, but I don't like Freddie.
We like Walt / Walter, but it's a bit of a mouthful.
He likes Sun (so he can say "this is my son, sun". No, really.)

I quite like Soren, and Sorell, but the latter is apparently a girls name? Any thoughts? Would I be frightfully cruel to call my fourth born either of these?

And any suggestions? I like quirky, slightly out there but not ridiculously wild. For example : Baxter (a no "'cos it's "a dogs name") Valentine, Wilbur, Quintin, Serafin.

Sorry, but I hate Soren, it's too close to the malt loaf brand name.

Don't mind Sorrell. Could you have Red as a nickname instead of Freddie?

Barney?
Spike?

Of those you've listed, I much prefer Baxter to the others, which I think would be too far out there for me.

I like Soren, nice Scandi vibe. Sorell, however, is indeed a girl's name, so no.

I know a lovely little Soren, & quite like the name, not so keen on the meaning.

How about Soloman, Asa or Zane

I quite like Soren, Sorell just makes me think of the herb.

I know a couple of female Sorrels and no males, but it's just a herb name really so don't see why you couldn't use it for a boy. Quite like it actually :) I like Soren too.

I really like Soren, but it does make me think of Soren Lorenson.
Sorell, I think of as a girls name.

Soren = malt loaf
Sorrel = pretty name. For a girl.

Soren is quite nice.

Sorrel is nice but definitely a girls name

I love Soren and had it on the shortlist for DS, but we already have a Lola so it was a no! I love Sorrel too, but it is more feminine than masculine IMO.

I know a Soren (boy(0). He is awesome and he loves his name, as do most people!

I know a Soren and its a gorgeous unusual name but that is easy to spell and pronounce and not so unusual people haven't heard if it

Sorrel is a girls name I'm afraid

Other suggestions:

Zane
Cody
Leon
Ralf
Theo

I think the novelty of my son Sun would wear off very quickly!

Soren Lorensson the imaginary friend form Charlie and Lola. YES! It's a fab name and I love it.

Soren is one of my favourite boys names, along with Sylvan and Otto.

Ooh this is interesting. DH has been lobbying for Soren (we don't yet know if it is a boy) and although I really like it I've been unsure whether it might be too Scandi and we might need some Scandi credentials to use it.

I did indeed nab Soren from Charlie and Lola, Blush
I love Red, last baby was almost Red, but it didn't suit... And I guess if I never called him Freddie, others might not? Hm.
I also like Ralf, and Leon! Tho Mr. says Ralf sounds like the noise you make when vomiting, charming man.

I'm very glad that people didn't have a huge negative response to it, that's something.

Sorell is out tho', it seems.

Friend has a baby Roux (pronounced Roo) which is French for Red, any use to you?!

I love Soren. It was one of my choices for DC3 but we went for another similar name in the end.

Soren was on our short list but we went for Wilbur ( our baby is 4 months old). It's a really nice name. I also really liked digby.

I prefer Sol to Sun.
Really like Solomon too, which could be Sol or Solly? Sol could even give you the option of Sun or Sunny as a nn.

Soren should be spelt properly if used! its Sören in swedish or Søren in Danish. I've never met a Soren.

I know a 2yo Soren that lives in the US. It's a fantastic name and full of character.

I really like the name Soren, but it must be unisex? The only Soren I've ever heard of was a woman. Spose that doesn't really matter though!

Report
mosuzu · 14/06/2013 14:13

I've only ever heard of Soren as a boys name. Cool name.
