Aurelia or Arya?

My DH loves Aurelia but I think it may be a bit 'fancy' and difficult for a child to pronounce. I thought Arya could be an alternative.

Opinions? Or what else should we consider?

Yes Aurelia is very hard to pronounce. Which means that I can't pronounce it.

I like Arya, although I think it will rise in popularity due to GofT.

If you use Arya everyone will just think it's a Game of Thrones thing (not that there's anything wrong with that, or that it matters what others think btw). Aurelia is lovely.

Aurelia is such a beautiful name. If I had a dd3 it is the name I would use. Arya is in my opinion not nearly as lovely. smile

I'm afraid when I saw Arya, I thought Aryan and I wouldn't use a name with such resonances.

I don't know Game of Thrones, I too thought Aryan and would avoid.

Aurelia, was in a film I watched recently - cant remember what though sorry.

Ooh I didn't think of Aryan similarity - probably strikes that off the list!

Was it Love Actually dolomites? That's where we heard it smile

I'm with meditrina... Arya instantly made me think of Aryan and I'm not even too familiar with the word and the issues but it has instant negative connotations (for me). Sorry.
I do love Aurelia though!
How about

Aurora
Ariel?

Or my personal favourite;

Athena (love this so much)

Afrikat, absolutely right! grin I knew I'd heard it pronounced by a non-English speaker and it had sounded beautiful. Perhaps not so much if you live in Bootle. wink

How about Aria? It's a legitimate non-game-of-thrones name, with both Hebrew and Italian (musical) origins.

I never get the appeal of the name aurelia. To me its a jellyfish. Sorry.

Love the name arya. I would assume game of thrones as well. Was it a name in its own right before GoT?

Decoy Sat 11-May-13 20:38:12

Aurelia is lovely and I also like the suggestions of Aurora and Aria. Amelia or Arianna?

Pobblewhohasnotoes Sat 11-May-13 20:43:53

Aurelia is lovely.

Aurelia is a character in Love Actually smile it's a beautiful name

How do you pronounce Arya?

Xpost with everyone blush

Arya is such a nothing name. Not familiar with Game of Thrones.

Aurelia is beautiful, on the other hand.

Homebird8 Sun 12-May-13 02:20:21

You could spell Ayra 'Eira'. Welsh for snow! Said the same I think.

glorious Sun 12-May-13 07:56:12

Aurelia. I know how to say that but not Arya!

picnicbasketcase Sun 12-May-13 08:05:17

Pronounced like Aria, I think it's pretty, but I'm not so keen on the way they pronounce it in GoT, which is more like 'Are-ya', like 'are ya going out'. Aurelia seems more like a real name, less trendy IYSWIM.

diddl Sun 12-May-13 09:27:28

Aurelia-lovely!

Arianna?

DolomitesDonkey Sun 12-May-13 09:35:43

Ayla? Pronounced eye-la.

hbmeic Sun 12-May-13 11:47:42

Aurelia reminds me of nipples (Areola).

Anya is lovely.

Aurelia is beautiful. I also thought aryan when I saw your list.
