what do people think of this name?

Fuckwittery Sun 12-May-13 20:11:51

Hmm strong opinions! I didn't really want to name a child after a baby deer, as far as I was concerned it is a name in its own right just not very popular one, now I see why! I still think it's a pretty name by itself but you lot have put me off grin

I don't like it because a fawn is pathetic and spindly. It's like calling your DD Baby or something.

It's ludicrous. Utterly, utterly stupid.

What if she looked all normal looking and was then expected to look at you with Bambi eyes if she wanted summat.

And if you're thinking about it for a boy I'm calling for the straight jacket wink

A bit beige to me too. As in:"You need a nice fawn jumper with that skirt!"

Decoy Sun 12-May-13 18:31:47

And it means "beige".

Decoy Sun 12-May-13 18:31:25

It sounds like a cowgirl's name

JojoMags Sun 12-May-13 15:23:16

I am short and fair skinned and heavily built. If I had been called Fawn it would have seemed a cruel joke and I would have changed it asap! Also fawns, whilst sweet, are a weak and dependent. Not the greatest association for the modern girl! What about Fern?

QueLinda Sun 12-May-13 15:21:39

It is nice but it's only going to suit a small boned, coltish type. What if she is broad in the beam! It would be a bit jarring.

I like wren too, I think a similar name but again a big, rugby playing girl called wren would be a bit comical.

A nice middle name though.

Mr Tumnus was my first thought strangely this doesn't put me off grin

Fawn James is the granddaughter of paul Raymond, porn king of soho... Pretty name but she's been in the headlines recently (upcoming biopic about her grandfathers life) and I could live without the associations.....

Wouldntyouliketoknow Sun 12-May-13 14:03:14

No, might be ok on a child but would definitely not suit an adult. What about Fern?

Baby deer. Not a child. Soz.

My dd2 has a freind named Faune, I really like it and my golly it suits her, she has lovely long legs and big brown eyes.

Fuckwittery Fri 10-May-13 07:55:47

hmm didnt think of the obsequious meaning, only the baby deer - graceful, sweet etc.
baby definitely wont grow up to be blonde and willowy though, i am dark and short! although i think the name would have suited my eldest dd, shes a willowy darkhaired girl very graceful.
i might use it as a middle name, my childhood home was in a place with "fawn" in the road name and id quite like to use it for that reason.

Cookethenook Fri 10-May-13 07:32:24

I know a Fawn, her sister is Rain.
I like it, wouldn't use it myself, but her parents are very trendy and a tiny bit hippy so it really suits them.

nooka Fri 10-May-13 04:54:25

Sorry I think it's quite ugly sounding probably because of the meaning:

To seek favor or attention by flattery and obsequious behavior.

Young deer are obviously lovely, but as a colour fawn is very beige. Faun is possibly slightly better, but a bit odd really.

toffeelolly Fri 10-May-13 04:44:58

No , sorry.

I think it's a lovely name for a child and would be for an adult as long as they grow up to be blonde and willowy! Not so sure it would suit all shapes and sizes (if you know what I mean?) but if you love it, go for it!! It's not too out there to be considered weird smile

(I knew a 'Pritty' at uni (and she wasn't) and this name is no where as bad as this!!

If everyone liked the same names then life would be boring. I have the most common name from the 80's and would much rather be called fawn!!

ShadowStorm Thu 09-May-13 23:11:01

A baby deer. Or a faun.

ItsallisnowaFeegle Thu 09-May-13 23:08:15

ItsallisnowaFeegle Thu 09-May-13 23:07:19

I'm with EuroShag, sorry. A fawn is always Mr. Tumnis to me.

JimbosJetSet Thu 09-May-13 22:54:41

How about Fearne?

ELR Thu 09-May-13 22:51:14

It's quite sweet, I like it.

rundontwalk Thu 09-May-13 22:50:50
