What names have you heard recently to make you stop in your tracks and wonder if the parents are a bit mad?

My most recent favourite is... Flossy, for a girl.
Made worse because my dads pet name for me is Flossy, or Floss. So to hear it as an ACTUAL name just makes me gawp.

Worst boys name - Banjo.

I think Jermajesty is a stroke of jenius.

I kinda like Satchel too though Satchel Farrow goes by his middle name Ronan now. He was named after Leroy 'Satchel' Paige, an African American baseball player who started his legendary career in the Negro Leagues and then continued in integrated baseball.

And of course Zowie Bowie is now Duncan Jones (apologies, haven't read whole thread so someone has probably said this).

Slightly off the point, but a friend of mine went to school with a boy called Delvin Hole....true fact.

DebsMorgan Fri 17-May-13 14:57:11

Zowie Bowie has actually always been called Duncan Jones (Zowie is a middle name) I guess they were doing the 'sensible' name thing.

Catlike Fri 17-May-13 15:09:36

The one I feel sorry for is Rolan Bolan (son of Marc). He probably felt that he couldn't change his name out of respect for his late dad.

clairebear88 Fri 17-May-13 15:24:06

a friend of a friend of a friend named her daughter Truly and her middle name was scrumptious. I kid u not shock

amazingmumof6 Fri 17-May-13 16:12:37

were the parents presumptuous? grin

Not read the whole thread so hope this hasn't been said...

A parent at my DC's school has named her new baby boy Spartacus!

Can you imagine having to introduce yourself as "Hello, i'm Spartacus..."

People just won't be able to resist...wink

hope4455 Fri 17-May-13 21:19:27

February-Rose is lovely.

smallandimperfectlyformed Fri 17-May-13 21:49:39

In play group a couple of years ago I heard a woman say 'Where is Praise The Lord'?! Enoch is a grandson of Adam so may have been given to children of very religious parents.

RedCurls Fri 17-May-13 23:23:29

Bear. I know a little boy called Bear and another boy with Bear as a middle name.

WhataSook Mon 20-May-13 14:03:51

Banjo Patterson is a famous Australian poet - that's probably where that name came from? If you're not on MN then fanjo really means nothing...

(Granted Andrew is Banjo's real name, i'd take Banjo over Andrew! smile)

formicadinosaur Tue 21-May-13 16:15:48

Flossy is short for Florence I think.

Amy106 Tue 21-May-13 16:31:20

Christmas. And not even a December baby!

MrsWinklepicker Tue 21-May-13 16:59:00

I was in a shop the other day and there was a tannoy announcement "Aslan to the checkouts please"... Thought I must've misheard so I causally headed over to the checkout to have a look at his name badge and sure enough...
Great name if you can carry it off!

Littlecherublegs Tue 21-May-13 23:39:44

I heard of sisters called Heather & Heaven.

Also siblings Harvey & Harper.

Nothing much wrong with the individual names but as sib-sets...???

TheBuskersDog Tue 21-May-13 23:45:34

Klay anyone?

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 23:52:24

Aslan to the checkouts please

Once in a while, I actually crack a proper smile. smile

Futterby Wed 22-May-13 00:15:14

I know three sisters called Daisy, Lily and Poppy. I just think... no. Are the parent's trying to grow a meadow...? What went through their minds?!

amazingmumof6 Wed 22-May-13 00:39:27

little cherublegs

what do you think about twins called Adam & Eve? ( true story)

just not right.

amazingmumof6 Wed 22-May-13 00:41:00

buskers

was it Kassius Klay? grin

KittyVonCatsworth Wed 22-May-13 00:47:29

Worked with a girl called Amber. Not unusual I hear you say, but you'd think mr and mrs Bush would've thought that through a bit more.

Futterby Wed 22-May-13 00:59:20

I don't get it blush

LittleMissLucy Wed 22-May-13 01:39:46

I love your list Amazingmumof6 - except for "Hero" - which is an old name, its Greek and even appears in Shakespeare, so in my book its fine. The rest of the trumped up names are all a bit "huh"
