what do people think of the name Felix?

juniper9 Sun 05-May-13 20:32:17

I really like it but my surname starts with F so it's a no-go. It means lucky in Latin, which I think is sweet.

Sod the cat!

Love Felix!

mrsmindcontrol Thu 02-May-13 10:54:55

I love it but I would as its DS1's name,

Btw diddl, I have a Felix & an Oscar!(and also a Charlie too)

I actually like the cat food association. It means it will never get as popular as, say, Max, which you can't move in a London playground without hearing.

I like it. DS has two 'x' names and if DD1 or DD2 had been a boy Felix would have been one of the middle names used.

Love it

I like it. I think it's a cool name. I wouldn't worry about the cat thing.

Why ignore the cat comments, LadyMetro? The OP is asking for peoples' opinions and a lot of people do associate Felix with the cat food brand.

CruCru Wed 01-May-13 16:36:25

I know a Felix. The parents wanted a names that can be used in the UK and Austria.

LadyMetroland Wed 01-May-13 14:30:48

Great name. Ignore cat comments.

I'm not that keen on the licks sound at the end. We also don't own a cat so no cat food associations here.

chaya5738 Wed 01-May-13 14:25:32

I LOVE it. Very quirky and cool.

But then we don't have cats so I don't associate it with the cat food. I do associate it with Felix the Cat - but in a good way - he is such a cool character and one of the first cartoons.

It also works in lots of languages.

And Felix Baumgartner is pretty cool and not at all cat-like (except maybe in having more than one life...)

It is ds' middle name (sp feliks as it is after polish grandpa) so obv we love it smile and the meaning is lovely.

evamummy Wed 01-May-13 11:49:46

I too think Cat Food, sorry. Or the cartoon Felix the Cat! But perhaps you're not in the UK?

My DS is Felix.
I was fully aware of the cat food, also the harbour, the Popes, James Bond's best friend, a few actors etc.

Most of all though, I loved the meaning, and the fact it couldn't be shortened easily.

I love it, but dh is very against it due to it being a 'cat name'. He also has a long list of 'dog names' which I am not allowed to use! I would def go for it given the chance though (I do love cats though so personally don't see that connection as a negative).

UnderwaterBasketWeaving Tue 30-Apr-13 18:18:07

Squoosh, I dont think it's at all childlike. I actually think it ages really well.

Maybe just me...

nannyof3 Tue 30-Apr-13 13:55:19

A cat

squoosh Tue 30-Apr-13 13:54:52

Not a name I'm fond of, it's too cat like for a boy and too cat like and too childish for a man.

I always think it sounds like a hiss too if that makes any sense. Probably due to the cat links.

diddl Germany Tue 30-Apr-13 13:23:04

I love it & always have.

I always wanted two boys-Felix & Oscar.

It didn't happen, but I still love both names.

carameldecaflatte Tue 30-Apr-13 06:58:41

my 10 month old son is a Felix and obviously I love it!
It's a latin name meaning happy and lucky and we are happy to have him and he is lucky to be here as we almost lost him.
We had one idiot asking us if we'd named him after the cat food and we just said, "yes, of course we did, our cats love it (they don't) and we thought they'd love him too if we named him after their favorite food" that shut him up.
We had one or two raised eyebrows from family but they all love his name now! [g

A few years ago I would have said a cat too. I have since met a Felix in his 30', kind, generous personality (not in UK though) It is a very nice name that does mean 'happy'.

UnderwaterBasketWeaving Tue 30-Apr-13 06:34:04

People will be rude about it, but I think it'sthe best name ever!

MonkeyingAroundTown Tue 30-Apr-13 06:27:48

Hate it for a childs name. Love it for a cats name
