What do you think of Sloveia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

AmiorEzzy Fri 26-Apr-13 15:41:12

I have heard it and I always think of a water creature and a girl with brown hair.

I keep reading it as Slovenia. How is it pronounced?

lljkk Fri 26-Apr-13 15:56:33

slovenly? Coz that's how I hear it.

FoxyRevenger Fri 26-Apr-13 15:57:30

It sounds like dandruff shampoo or something.

rubyhaha Fri 26-Apr-13 17:47:41

don't like it.

Chottie Fri 26-Apr-13 17:53:11

Rhubarbgarden Fri 26-Apr-13 19:15:11

Too close to slovenly.

Exhaustipated Fri 26-Apr-13 19:17:33

Yup sorry reminds me of slovenly

MinnieBar Fri 26-Apr-13 19:19:43

Slovakia, Slovenia…

KittenofDoom Fri 26-Apr-13 19:43:47

It just looks like a typo for Slovenia. Norwegian, really? I've heard Solveig, which sounds a little bit like Sylvie.

ZZZenagain Fri 26-Apr-13 19:47:21

AmiorEzzy Sat 27-Apr-13 08:31:30

sooperdooper Sat 27-Apr-13 08:32:54

Don't like it, yeah it sounds like slovenly or a mispronounced country

KittenofDoom Sat 27-Apr-13 10:27:33

If it's Slo-veen-a as you say, then it does look like a typo. Where does the 'n' sound come from?

sparkle12mar08 Sat 27-Apr-13 13:03:03

Slovenly Slitheen from Slovenia I'm afraid. Awful.

GoombayDanceBand Sat 27-Apr-13 13:04:04

It would drive me mad, with the missing letter thing. Sorry.

MadBusLady Sat 27-Apr-13 13:06:06

Where did you get it from, OP? I can't find it anywhere on the internet except this thread.

pinkyredrose Sat 27-Apr-13 13:10:22

It's awful.

Saralyn Sat 27-Apr-13 13:24:19

It's not a Norwegian name. i looked it up on Statistics Norway website and it says that "Fewer than four people or no one has the name Sloveia" in Norway.

Saralyn Sat 27-Apr-13 13:25:24

Sorry, wrong link.

I haven't heard of it before but if you listed it presumably it means something special to you. Took me as a schoolgirl a while to realise Siobhan was sounding like Shevaun so the strangeness of Sloveia having an 'n' sound in the middle would sink in I'm sure.
