Girl's name Minnie could be short for?

Please help me find a girl's name that Minnie could be short for. My 4 kids and I love the name but DH won't agree unless we find a "sensible" name it could be short for. He has already discounted Willamina (my favourite), Jasmine, Minerva(!) and a few others that sound too similar to Malina (2nd daughter's name). DH is Indian and I am English so names that fit into both cultures would be brilliant (the other 4 kids names fit into both). Failing that, perhaps names that Marnie/Mani could be short for as I quite like that too, but again, DH thinks it's too much of a nickname and wants a long version. PLEASE help as baby number 5 is now 4 weeks old and I have to register her next week!

I really wouldn't.

Slang for vulva where I live.

Girls names with "min" in them here. Mina/Meena is a bit more elegant than Minnie, but it is very similar sounding to your older dd.

Here's a similar list for girls names with 'man' in them, Amanda being the most obvious.

Marnie is a name in it's own right, the root is Marina, but that is way too similar to Malina! Personally I'd look for a name that didn't begin with M or have a long 'ee' sound.

Tehmina? I think it's a Persian name - that could be shortened to Minnie?

The one I know is Minesha.

As she's the youngest you could just nickname her Minnie anyway.

It doesn't need to link to a name.Smile

D'oh! Didn't see that you'd discounted Minerva. Sorry. What about Ameena for the Indian connection?

Always Mary-Anne or Marianne in my family, shortened to Minnie. But perhaps that is a bit similar too?

Not meeting the Indian connection, but I know an Imogen who goes by Minnie for family and close friends

I thought Minnie was from Mary?? However could be very wrong. When I was at school Many moons ago, one of my friends was known as "Minnie" but her real name was Mary-Rose.

I 'googled' and Minnie showed up as a shortened version of Minissha and Hermione. A bit more digging revealed that there is an Indian actress called Minissha Lamba.

I also know an Imogen who gets shortened to Minnie. She is 7 and likes having her formal name and her nickname too

Minnie is beautiful! I think it would be a sensible nickname for Melanie. That has a modern and timeless feel to it and it bit more substance for her when she is an adult. I also know a Millie that is shortened form for Emelia. Close enough if he doesn't like Minnie.

Amelia is lovely.
As another poster suggested, name her whatever you like and call her Minnie anyway.
I call DD2 Tilly and it isn't remotely similar to her very old Irish name, it's just a NN.

Do check that it isn't a word for female genitqls in your area- it is round here. A Minnie started in my ds's school in year 2, and had a very difficult time for a while.
