I'd say there will be very negative associations to Mairead tbh.

As above, Mairead makes me think of Philpott.

Esme is lovely.

Mairead makes me think of Mairead Farrell, but having said that I do know a Mairead and I don't associate the two iyswim.

Esme is very popular at the moment. I prefer Mairead.

It's a shame about the Philpott connection as Mairead is a pretty name. How about Merryn?

Like Esme but getting just a little bit weary of it - I know loads now!

I agree,I'm afraid Mairead has been ruined for the moment.

Esme is lovely.

Esme is DD's name. I must have got in before the rush -- I don't know any other Esmes and her name is still often commented on because it is unusual and pretty. She's 12.

She's definitely Ez-mee, though. She loathes Ez-may, as do I.

Mairead.

Not keen on Esme, the "ezz" sound is harsh.

I love Mairead, it's on my shortlist. Not arsed about woman in the news - you've no control over what might happen post-birth in the news, there may be an Esme to out-horror Mairead.

You're not naming the baby AFTER Mairead Philpott...

Esme is lovely. Mairead is awful, even without recent events.

It's not for my own child, a friend of mine was asking what I thought of them for her child. I think Philpott too TBH but she loves it!

Love love love Esme.

I had not at all associated Mairead with the Philpott woman until posters mentioned it, but I just don't like the name at all. Esme is so much nicer!
