As a boy's name...?
What might it get shortened to?

Oakenshield, yes.

That aside, I'm not convinced. I think it is quite sensitive as boys' names go.

I love Torin, it's one of the few names I've got on my list for a second boy. I can't imagine it being shortened though - Tor is the only logical place for it to go.

Different. ....think I like it.

hmm yes, have just googled the Hobbit connection ... DP will probably be impressed but me, not so much.

Am worried that it might be shortened to Tory which would make me want to kill someone

I knew a Taran and a Thane.
Thorin (apart from Oakenshield) could be shortened to Thor.

I'm not sure it would get shortened really. I know a Torran who is just Torran. :-)

I love it too, although I would never shorten it.
(I have a little boy called Torran though so am biased.)

It's a lovely name and not shortened for the one I know.

Lovely name :) I guess it'd be shortened to Tor?

Torin is a great name! I know one who is always Torin - no need to shorten imo.

Didn't read the thread but sounds like a car name. Or even a pushchair name. Sorry

delilah88 · 30/03/2013 20:01

No. Sounds like Torrid.

Don't really like it, it sounds made up.

It's lovely, one of my favourite boys names. I wouldn't shorten it though,it doesn't really seem to lend itself to being shortened.
