It's hard going choosing names when your friends and family have so many children and hence names already used! Tonight dh and I came up with3 names that both if us would 'consider' lol! What do you think of them? Middle name would be James .

They all 'work' for me.

Toby or Tobias has a posh boy ring to it which wouldn't be a problem as far as I'm concerned.

I'm in Scotland so Angus wouldn't be unheard of up here. Not that you need a Scottish connection to use it.

Micah makes a nice change from Michael!

They all go well with James.

I like Toby, don't mind Gus, really don't like Micah (sorry).

forgetmenots Thu 14-Mar-13 09:32:10

Angus is my choice if DC is a DS, like Toby a lot too. Not keen on Micah!

kelda Thu 14-Mar-13 09:32:44

Angus is fab.

We are in Scotland and Angus is quite popular around here. I love Gus I think but of the three it goes least well with our surname : too many s sounds.. Still think its doable. I am favouring Toby just now but don't know if it is sufficient on it's own or if it needs to have a longer form on the BC ? Don't know if I like Tobias!

Oh and thank you all for being do polite! Have read some very harsh comments on baby name threads recently! smile

Is Micah pronounced My-kah or Mee-kah? I really like both Toby and Angus - if we didn't have a friend called the latter I'd consider it for ours (not that I don't like him - it just might be a bit weird!)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 14-Mar-13 12:23:48

Am sure you could just put Toby on his bc.

I don't think it's especially kind or helpful putting the boot in when people raise questions about choices, I'd rather avoid posting on a contentious thread chicken.

Toby- my favourite I think its a lovely name, Love it!
Angus- ok but not for me, really lovely if you live in scotland, or are of Scottish heritage, family name.
Micah- Dont like

I like Toby and Angus (Gus) but Micah sounds really stupid, sorry. What sort of name is Micah?

Ttcnumero3 Thu 14-Mar-13 19:12:27

Micah is a biblical name....

ZolaBuddleia Thu 14-Mar-13 19:16:54

Not keen on Micah either, it feels female, even though I know it isn't.

Love Gus, Tobias is ok, but not mad keen on Toby.

Micah is pronounced my-kah and means to be like God.

It's Old Testament.

We've had nothing but nice comments but that's what I'd expect once the child has the name rather than when its a pre birth conversation.

We happen to know a Micah James (after we had named DC) too.

We obviously like it but I also like Tobias too.

Shr0edinger Thu 14-Mar-13 19:24:29

oh it's a bit 'sleb' and trendy. I can see its appeal in certain circles though.

I prefer Michael.

Still18atheart Thu 14-Mar-13 19:31:45

Like Gus and Toby a lot.

Don't like Micah because I don't know how to pronounce it.

Micah fabulous. Also a great read.

Ttcnumero3 Thu 14-Mar-13 20:08:40

Ds has an Old Testament name... So very open to another . I want to choose a name that everyone likes but few people have chosen and isn't too 'out there'. Not asking much am I ??!grin

forgetmenots Thu 14-Mar-13 20:18:43

I love Jonah if that helps OP, I like Angus (as I said its my number one pick), and Toby, and Jonah is probably my favourite biblical boy's name.

Jojobump1986 Thu 14-Mar-13 20:19:15

I love Micah. Choosing DS2's name would be so much simpler if we didn't have close friends who have a Micah who will be about 15m older than him! sad

I like Toby, but prefer Tobias personally.

Not keen on Angus but then I've never even been to Scotland so I don't think you should pay any attention to me!

You aren't but I don't think you'll ever get 100% approval if your asking for opinions.

I obviously still like Micah.

Other rarer Old Testament names include

Asher, Jonah, Jesse, Gideon, Malachi (said Mal-a-k-eye rather than mal-a-key). Any thoughts on those?

Nahum?
Isaacher?

LynetteScavo Thu 14-Mar-13 20:30:58

Angus James. smile

Micah is also nice (Mika, Angus and James were all on my list for DS1 smile)

For some reason I'm not keen on Toby, but there is nothing wrong with it. (And I;m very good at finding fault with names.)

Leeds2 Thu 14-Mar-13 20:31:07

I like Gus.

Any Micah born today would be assumed to be named after Micah Richards, which you may or may not mind!

Forgetmenots, i really like Jonas which is a derivative of Jonah. But dh has poo-pooed itsad.
