Baby names

Matilda or Tabitha?

Tabitha - Do not mind cat associations, like nicknames Tabbi, Tab/s, Tabster etc.

Matilda - lovely but do not like nicknames Matty or Tilly.

...Was just wondering on others opinions, which would you go for?

Tabitha would be a serious contender if I had another girl:)

I'd go for Mathilda, but Tabitha is a beautiful name. Tabi is sweet. I know two Tabithas and they are both lovely. I also know a Mathilda and she's lovely too.

I like Matilda best.

I'd go for Matilda. I know one that is shortened to Dilly and another shortened to Tilda.

I know sisters called Matilda and Tabitha! Both lovely names, hard to choose between them, but my personal fav is Tabitha :)

I love Mattie as a nickname for Matilda, but prefer Tabitha as a name. Matilda is lovely, but Tabitha sounds a bit fresher to my ears.

Matilda! I always wanted to be the girl from the books

I love both names. Tabitha is my absolute favourite, with Tibby as a nn, and if for any reason I was put off Tabitha then Matilda would be my second choice.

Matilda, I can't get past the vision of either a tabby cat or a rath posh, but totally air headed teen.

Ooooh we had exactly this dilema and chose Tabitha. I think it's less of mouthful and passed the playground test in that respect, it's also less common. So glad we went with it, she's 2 now and suits it completely.

I like cats...don't mind the connotation at all.

But when it comes to something like 'Jemima' I immediately think 'Puddleduck' and would never use it! Love the name Felix as well...perhaps I am duck prejudiced ha ha!

I wasn't aware of Dilly as a nn for Matilda (sounds like a nn for a dildo...eek!)

I like nicknames Tabs, Tabster, Tibby and don't mind Tabbi....whereas can't get to grips with any Matilda nicknames. Matt/Matti/Tilly/Tilda..I like Tilda but it seems more just like a name than an easy-flowing nickname iyswim?
