All my DP and I can compromise on is Matilda....so it looks ilke that is what she may well be named.

But it IS a compromise and not either of our faves.

His favourite :
Perdy

My favourites:
Harriet
Rose
Neve
Lara
Orla
Phoebe
Juliet/Juliette
Tabitha

What do you think - should I fight for one of my names, go with his favourite or just stick with the mutual compromise of Matilda? Help! xxx

Lara, or Juliette would be my choice from your list.

Orla is my favourite girls name ever, and will be my choice for dc1 if pink. Like Neve too but would spell it Niamh. Then Matilda. Nice names :)

Not sure about his favourite (is he a fan of Joanna Lumley?) but I do like all your choices, particularly

Harriet
Lara
Oorla
Juliet

If she's very hairy, how about Pelagia?

MadameJosephine · 01/03/2013 17:37

Juliet would be my favourite from that list. How about Perdita with Perdy for short?

I love Matilda! Sadly DH didn't, so we compromised on Rosa.

Matilda is lovely. I really don't like his choice. Maybe Persephone with Percy as a nickname? From your list I adore Harriet, and really like Juliet.

i think you've got to win this one.

my favourites from your list are Rose, Harriet and Juliet.

I like Juliet, Harriet and Tabitha much more than Matilda.

And as for his Lumley fetish Hmm

I LOVE Perdy. I wanted a little Perdy.... Perdita is beautiful. Makes me think of the witch child in that Nina Bawden book.

I haven't heard the name Perdy for years! Knew a girl called Perdy when I was a younger and I remember even back then thinking what a cool name it was. She was brilliant and a lot of fun. I would absolutely go with that. Out of the other names the only one I like is Neve.

Perdy Matilda Smile

Doesn't Perdita mean lost?

Perdy is pretty cool. Its the mum Dalmatian in 101 Dalmatians. I don't do Disney but Perdy was beautiful.

Despite my aversion to Disney, I would call a child Perdita. Totally.

DH has just announced he likes Orla too.
So really if I were to take his opinion into account :D it's between Matilda / Orla / Perdy...

I am completely divided on Perdy. To be honest it seems a Marmite name and the fact that some dislike it so much does put me off it (eek...caring what people think!?!?!).

Surprised at how universal liked Harriet is on here! Oh if only DH were less picky...will find it hard to let go of other names, esp Tabitha.

It is a marmite name, I'm one of the ones who doesn't like it, sorry! Sad
I don't like Harriet either!
I do think it's better for you to compromise, better than one of you ending up hating the name. As I said up thread, ours was a compromise name as I loved Matilda but now I'm so glad we went with Rosa as it suits her down to the ground, she isn't really a Matilda Smile

I think you have to compromise.

Orla or Lara are lovely, it seems a shame to 'settle' on a compromise name, .

Perdita is lovely. Also love Harriet. I do like Matilda though and think Tilly as a nn has a lovely ring to it.
