How popular is Isla...

Do you know any? I have always been in love with the name, and just looking through names and I'm shocked to see its so popular according to the polls...

So how many is there really out there? I'm due August...

Also from the south if that's any help...

Isla is very popular in the south of England, I know several- but don't let that stop you using it if you like it, it's a very pretty name.

Very - know quite a few in the NE and on holiday DD has two friends called Isla, both from the south. But it could really depend on your area - would ask friends with children at local nurseries/ schools.

Very. My friend chose it for her 3 yr old and everyone thought it was pretty and unusual. Now every 2nd baby (the alternate one is Amelia/Emlia/Millie/Mia) is an Isla. Lovely name though.

My daughter's name but she is nearly 5 -it was at about number 63 when we named her, now 15! These threads always depress me, would appreciate it if anyone who does not know a million Islas could post and redress balance! I console myself not too many in her age group in England, but this would not be case for baby named now.

I don't know any Islas and have lots of friends with babies and I work with babies and toddlers. Lovely name! Choose a name you Iove try not to worry about popularity. I used to be a primary school teacher and I never had a class of children all with the same name!

If you like it, use it. If popularity puts you off though, I can think of five under five who I know off the top of my head. There are two in DD1's pre-school class of around 20 children.

I love the name Isla, I don't know any here (South East) but I'm a first time mum-to-be and not yet well connected in the baby circles.

We're trying to choose between Isla and another name that's very unique and not easy to spell/pronounce, so I guess we're weighing up the pros and cons of each end of the spectrum.

I think if you really love the name then use it regardless.

I don't know any Isla's (Edinburgh) and I just asked dd1 (5) if she knew any and she looked at me like I'd grown another head . Such a pretty name, was on my list for both dds.

Also, dd1's name was 3rd in popularity the year she was born and she is the only one in two P1 classes at her school so giving a popular name doesn't always mean being one of many in a class.

I don't know any & I live in the west mids. I wouldn't choose it of my surname was white, Mann, Dogs etc! Lol

Gorgeous name. I teach a lovely girl called Isla. (First child in 20 years of teaching with that name.. and I'm in SE too).

As long as your surname is not White, Man, Sheppy etc.... Go for it!!!

I took DS to the Science Museum last week and met an Isla in the Launchpad. I don't know any personally.

I can think of four under 1 in my immediate acquaintances without having to think too hard! I'm also in the south.

Masses here up North (as in Scotland North, not England). All the others are called Erin or Lauren or some spelling of something that isn't quite-right-Gaelic . . .

I blame the legacy of Isla St Clair . . .

I only know one baby Isla (East Midlands).
I know one who is about 6 (Inverness)
and I know three who are in their 30's (all Scottish, I went to school with them).

I know of two born within 2 weeks of my DS in July.
