Not for me, love Serenity though

GrottyPotPlant Tue 05-Feb-13 21:41:15

If I was a detective I'd be called Serendipity Brown (but I'd use my middle name Jane for dealing with the norms).
I think it's a great name, as long as there is a more ordinary middle name in case of necessity and teenage conforming. I like it much better than Serenity, a lot more go to it, in my mind. But if you feel a bit sheepish about it then it might not be the best name for your family

PurpleStorm Tue 05-Feb-13 21:36:56

I like Serendipity, and the meaning of it.

Not sure if I'd be brave enough to go for it myself though!

MolotovCocktail Tue 05-Feb-13 21:34:54

Not a name that I like because I think it sounds quite pretentious. Names I like better are Serena or Seren. Or, work with the meaning of the name and find alternative from there (if it's alternatives that you want, of course!)

Rhubarbgarden Tue 05-Feb-13 21:23:44

Ridiculous unless it's for a cartoon princess.

Allalonenow Tue 05-Feb-13 21:23:28

I don't like Serendipity, but Serena is close in sound and very pretty.

hurricanewyn Tue 05-Feb-13 21:16:37

I'd pronounce it Ser-in

KumquatMae Tue 05-Feb-13 21:13:38

I love Seren too. Never sure how to pronounce it though. Se-REN, Serun? And even though I know dippy means stupid I still think it's quite a cute nickname..

hurricanewyn Tue 05-Feb-13 21:12:28

yy meditrina

hurricanewyn Tue 05-Feb-13 21:11:38

DH suggested Serendipity for DC1 who was a bit of a 'surprise' - everyone we mentioned it too said Dippy as a nn. That was enough to turn me off, but the name has a lovely sentiment

meditrina Tue 05-Feb-13 21:10:12

It doesn't do it for me, sorry.

And although I'd never say this to one if I met one in RL, I would assume it was an accidental conception.

badtemperedaldbitch Tue 05-Feb-13 21:08:27

She would get called dippy where I come from

DawnOfTheDee Tue 05-Feb-13 21:06:09

No, it's a bit 'much' for me I think. What about Seren?

flossy101 Tue 05-Feb-13 21:03:03

Like it, wouldn't be brave enough myself though.

perplexedpirate Tue 05-Feb-13 21:02:57

No. I think it's the 'dip' bit that makes it sound just silly.
Seren and Ren are both nice though.

Seminyak Tue 05-Feb-13 20:59:56

There was someone in neighbours ages ago called Serendipity, nn Ren. Love Ren! Serendipity is a nice notion as well smile

Having said that I wouldn't be brave enough to name my child Serendipity. I do like the word though!
