I really like the name Edward if bump is a boy, and DP's middle name is John (it's also his Grandad's name) and for these reasons we would quite like the middle name to be John, but does Edward John sound too regal?
If it's a girl I quite like Felicity Rose. Is this too "middle class" (I live in an ex council house, so we are far from middle class!!)
I also like Arthur and Isobel!!
I've got 16 weeks til my due date so plenty of time to make up my mind, but I would just like to have an idea of people's immediate reactions to these names.
They are all lovely names. Don't worry about what class they are as all that stuff is a load of shit anyway. If you like a name then you should have it and it doesn't matter what type of house you live in.
Felicity is lovely. Rose is gorgeous too but I think it's this generation's Jane or Louise. Felicity Isobel sounds nice to my ear but if you've got a long surname, you might want something shorter.
Edward John sounds very handsome!
All lovely names!
All lovely names.
Love Edward and Arthir. Felicity Rose is so pretty. Go for it.
Not so keen on Isobel anymore - its popularity has ruined it for me (although I like the sound of it).
Lollybrolly That's my prob with Isobel as well, I really like it but there's loads of kids called Isobel now! Think I will stick with Felicity for a girl, I like the fact she would be able to choose when she is older if she wanted to be called Felicity, Fliss or Flick, I think it's nice to have a name that you can shorten if you want to. That's why I'm not so sure about Arthur because you can only really shorten to Artie which I don't really like!
Also, the reason for Rose for the middle name is my middle name is Elizabeth and "Felicity Elizabeth" is just too long! I thought Felicity Rose sounded pretty
DP is doing my head in with not giving his opinion on names, he just says "there's ages yet" - I swear he will be saying that on my bloody due date!
I think Edward John sounds fine, I wouldn't have said regal - Edward Charles or George possibly - but unless you are always going to call out 'Edward John!" and use both names together, will it matter?
Felicity Rose is sweet, I don't know a Felicity. The whole class thing, who knows you'll be in 10 years' time, or where she'll end up living, here or abroad, don't worry about that too much.
Great choices and maybe DP isn't letting himself get too excited yet, ime it tends to be mums more than dads who start wondering about name first.
They just sound like nice names to me. As for regal, yes, that could be a King's name. It could also be a mechanic's name, a doctor's name, a pilot's name, and artist's name, a politician's name, a bus driver's name, a vet's name, a gardener's name .... It's a name that doesn't carry heavy associations.
Thanks everyone, just didn't want it to get the piss ripped out of it for its name - I used to get ripped a lot for my name, and its not even an unusual name! I guess it's because it's my first child - it was hard enough naming my dog (called her Molly in the end, which I shouldn't of because I really like the name Molly for a child doh but I got her 2 years ago when I was 18 and wasn't even considering children - doh!) Guess I'm reading into it too much!
I think Edward John sounds lovely, not too anything! It's a great name.
Everyone and their dog seems to have Rose as a middle name these days, though it is pretty. How about Felicity Beth?
No name which includes 'John' is regal, the Royal Family haven't used it since King John (he of the Magna Carter). There is some superstition attached to it, but I forget what.
There was a Prince John last century actually. Son of George V and Queen Mary. Died young.
We have a 4 yr old Felicity Faith.Never met another yet.We call her Fliss/Flissy,Miss Fliss and she calls herself Sissy! My dad calls her Filly and MiL calls her Floss. Felicity Rose sounds lovely.
King Jedward
Edward is a good name. It sounds lovely and I actually like Eddie, too, (or even Eadie for a girl!)
But it is quite posh. I've only met extremely posh young men (when I was younger) called Edward. All of them delightful, charming, nothing wrong with them, but distinctly posh - sons of Brigadiers, that kind of thing.
Felicity gorgeous!!! (but I am biased, my dearest friend has that name and dd named after her) think it goes beautifully with Rose, which isn't common where I live. Isobel a bit meh imho due to over use but perfectly nice.
Great choices.
If you were thinking of calling your DS Queenie, then yes it could be considered too regal. What you've chosen is great.
I love all your names. My Dad's name is Edward John and Edward is my favourite boy's name. I love Felicity although I would choose another middle name than Rose which is the default middle name. Arthur is also gorgeous. Isobel is lovely but very popular.
I'm stuck for a middle name for Felicity now - I really like Rose but I didn't realise it was so popular
Rose is popular because it is a lovely name. Use it if you love it.
FWIW my DCs all have middle names. Not particularly popular ones as they were the names of elderly family members. They don't get used regularly, (Christening, form filling, that sort of thing).
We have one Felicity, curiously DD of the Mum how is the hardest to give a label to.
Lovely name.
Rose is popular because it's pretty and makes a perfect middle name.
Could you use Felicity Beth (if you are Elizabeth), DD1 has my NN as her middle name.
In my case because I was only ever full name if I was in trouble.
Don't be put off by others using it, she'll be your Felicity Rose and that's all that matters
Felicity Rose is very pretty. A popular middle name does not bother me so much.
Do you have any contenders? Would it be a 1 syllable middle name that you would want and goes with your surname better?
What absolutely lovely names!
Good luck
Edward John or Arthur John are both lovely.
I like Felicity but would be put off by Rose's popularity. DD1 has a Felicity Ellen in her class known as Lissi or Liss.
What about using a nn of Elizabeth as middle name eg: Beth, Eliza, Bess?
