Do you think Nate is ok as a full name?

Can you think of a full name for it other than Nathan or Nathaniel?

I wouldn't use it as a full name, but some people would, I guess. It's lovely though, but nicer IMO to still use a full version 'officially', even if you never call them that. My youngest has a longer version of what we always call her, but even in school her name is written in its shorter form, because that's how she is known. Same with my eldest, now I come to think of it. I just feel it looks a bit lazy to put it on the birth certificate.

It's up to you though- as I say, lots of people would think it was fine.

Any ideas about a different full name to use with Nate as the nickname?

Don't really like Nathan or Nathaniel

It is short for Nathan. Do you remember Nate Dogg?

No ever heard if him till then, just googled him.

Do you feel a bad association for the name because of him?

No, not at all -- just an amusing reference because of his popular song 'Regulate'! Ignore me. I think Nate is quite a nice strong name. Nathan is a great name I really like it.

I once met a Greek man called Thanassis -- I doubt that would work but could give Nate! Or Nadim? They're all quite culturally specific though.

Or why not just give Nate as a middle name? Then it doesn't matter it's not so formal.

I like Nate too but not the long versions, I would probably pick Nathaniel if I had to choose one.

It is quite a nice name, but you forever be telling people that it isn't short for Nathan/Nathaniiel.

Personally I don't see the need for the formal long version of the name if you don't intend on using it. I think Nate it lovely and perfectly fine as a name in its own right.

My son has a name that would be considered a nickname (think along the lines of Alfie, but not was popular). One of my friends was adamant I should give him a 'proper' name 'in case he grows up to be a barrister'! The amount of alfies, Charlies, harrys, etc means that nickname type first names will be common place by the time my son is an adult.
