I have a James. At school he's James but we all call him Jimmy at home. He was named after my beloved grandfather who was a James but was called Jim. I wasn't as keen on Jim but jimmy really suits him.

James and Jim are fine. Jimmy just makes me think of the unmentionable.

I know a Jim in his twenties. Complete pillock. My ex stepfather is also Jim. He's a complete pillock too. Having said that I do like the name James with Jimmy as a nn so I say go for it. :-D

On reflection, I think if I didn't have the horrible association from the name I wouldn't mind it.
