yes, definitely. love this name.

GreatSoprendo · 19/01/2013 19:37

Honestly? Depends on surname a bit I guess, but my instinct is no.

Bunbaker · 19/01/2013 19:37

Is it a proper name?

LedaOfSparta · 19/01/2013 19:39

Love it, love it, love it.

I wanted it if DD had been a DS but DH wasn't as keen.

PeachActiviaMinge · 19/01/2013 20:01

Are you a Merry Gentry fan OP? Wink I'm really not keen but I might be biased from the books all I think is bat like human with tentacles that act like extra penises/penii.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/01/2013 20:03

No.

Flossiechops · 19/01/2013 20:04

No no and no again!

lucywiltshire · 19/01/2013 20:35

Never heard of Merry Gentry?! It goes well with our surname but not sure - think it might be a bit unusual. Hubby is a teacher and there is one at his school. Not sure what it means as haven't checked baby names book but it is def a proper name!!!!

Sounds like a prize-winning racehorse to me.

Chottie · 19/01/2013 20:38

Sorry, no.

Moominsarescary · 19/01/2013 20:40

Not keen at all

Moominsarescary · 19/01/2013 20:43

Just googled it and apparently it's Scottish and means fruitfulness/fertility

Viviennemary · 19/01/2013 20:44

It's pretty awful but I've heard worse.

HDee · 19/01/2013 20:44

Never heard of it. It sounds like a brand of Japanese car, so no.

Floralnomad · 19/01/2013 20:45

Not as bad as Gavroche!

borisjohnsonshair · 19/01/2013 20:49

no.

Longtalljosie · 19/01/2013 20:51

Have you been reading North and South?

SamsGoldilocks · 19/01/2013 20:51

I like it

lucywiltshire · 19/01/2013 20:51

seems like a bit of a Marmite name then!

OP posts:
WifeofPie · 19/01/2013 20:53

It sounds like a Jack London book.

Narked · 19/01/2013 23:08

No.

sparkle12mar08 · 19/01/2013 23:21

I know a real life one - parents are Scottish/Irish, and the association with fertility would make perfect sense as I think he was an assisted conception. I think it's lovely if you have Scottish heritage, a classic and strong old school name.

very confused now! Still loving it and Hubby has some Scottish blood and greq up in Edinburgh. Oddly though he isn't that keen!!

LindaMcCartneySausage · 20/01/2013 15:03

It's Scottish, but it's very unusual in Scotland. ive neber met one. It's ver ver posh - the sort of name old Etonians with Scottish heritage might give their child. Quite like it, and your DS is unlikely to be one of 3 in his class (unless he goes to Etonian maybe!? Hmm)
