For a boy - yes or no?

baskingseals Sat 19-Jan-13 19:36:24

yes, definitely. love this name.

GreatSoprendo Sat 19-Jan-13 19:37:01

Honestly? Depends on surname a bit I guess, but my instinct is no.

Bunbaker Sat 19-Jan-13 19:37:44

Is it a proper name?

LedaOfSparta Sat 19-Jan-13 19:39:39

Love it, love it, love it.

I wanted it if DD had been a DS but DH wasn't as keen.

PeachActiviaMinge Sat 19-Jan-13 20:01:30

Are you a Merry Gentry fan OP? wink I'm really not keen but I might be biased from the books all I think is bat like human with tentacles that act like extra penises/penii.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 19-Jan-13 20:03:49

No.

Flossiechops Sat 19-Jan-13 20:04:57

No no and no again!

lucywiltshire Sat 19-Jan-13 20:35:53

Never heard of Merry Gentry?! It goes well with our surname but not sure - think it might be a bit unusual. Hubby is a teacher and there is one at his school. Not sure what it means as haven't checked baby names book but it is def a proper name!!!!

Anonymumous Sat 19-Jan-13 20:37:09

Sounds like a prize-winning racehorse to me.

Chottie Sat 19-Jan-13 20:38:35

Sorry, no.

Not keen at all

Just googled it and apparently it's Scottish and means fruitfulness/fertility

Viviennemary Sat 19-Jan-13 20:44:01

It's pretty awful but I've heard worse.

HDee Sat 19-Jan-13 20:44:09

Never heard of it. It sounds like a brand of Japanese car, so no.

Floralnomad Sat 19-Jan-13 20:45:13

Not as bad as Gavroche!

no.

Have you been reading North and South?

SamsGoldilocks Sat 19-Jan-13 20:51:07

I like it

lucywiltshire Sat 19-Jan-13 20:51:36

seems like a bit of a Marmite name then!

WifeofPie Sat 19-Jan-13 20:53:47

It sounds like a Jack London book.

Narked Sat 19-Jan-13 23:08:10

No.

sparkle12mar08 Sat 19-Jan-13 23:21:05

I know a real life one - parents are Scottish/Irish, and the association with fertility would make perfect sense as I think he was an assisted conception. I think it's lovely if you have Scottish heritage, a classic and strong old school name.

very confused now! Still loving it and Hubby has some Scottish blood and greq up in Edinburgh. Oddly though he isn't that keen!!
